October 11, 2016 | Soccer
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Colorado's soccer team jumped into the top 25 on Tuesday as the Buffaloes are ranked No. 23 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll. It is CU's first appearance in the top 25 since Sept. 15, 2009 when the Buffs were also ranked 23rd. CU is one of five Pac-12 schools in this week's top 25.
Colorado (11-3 overall, 5-0 Pac-12) is riding a nine-match winning streak. The Buffs have opened conference play on a tear, defeating Washington State, Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon and Oregon State so far. This past weekend, CU won 3-1 against Oregon and 3-0 against OSU at home.
Two freshmen have emerged as the team's leaders on each end of the field with Taylor Kornieck tied for the Pac-12 lead with 10 goals scored this season. Only one freshman in the nation has more goals. Jalen Tompkins, a redshirt freshman goalkeeper, has a 0.49 goals-against average and .900 save percentage. She leads the conference in save percentage and is second in GAA.
CU is also ranked No. 22 in this week's Soccer America poll.
The Buffs will remain at home this week when they host Washington at 3 p.m. on Friday at Prentup Field. That match will be nationally televised on Pac-12 Network.
