Women’s Team Tops USTFCCCA Poll, Men Seventh

BOULDER — After a dominating performance last weekend at the NCAA Pre-National Invitational, the Colorado women's cross country team has taken over the top spot in the latest USTFCCCA Coaches Poll, which was released on Tuesday morning. The men's team fell one spot to seventh.
The women recorded 356 points and eight of the 12 first-place votes to move into first place after defeating Oregon 93-154 at pre-nationals. This is the first time the CU women have been ranked first since 2005. The Buffs placed three of their runners in the top 20 and the other two scorers both finished in the top 40. Senior Erin Clark led the way with a second place finish, while junior Kaitlyn Benner was 12th overall. Sophomore Dani Jones took 17th and another sophomore, Makena Morley, placed 26th. Rounding out CU's score was freshman Sage Hurta.
The Pac-12 Conference has three teams listed in the top five. Washington is second with 351 points and recorded the remaining four first-place votes, while Oregon is fifth this week (313). NC State is ranked third overall, while Providence, the former No. 1 team, is fourth this week (327).
In the men's poll, the Buffs dropped from sixth to seventh (285 points) after a third place performance at pre-nationals. CU recorded 124 points and finished behind Oregon (85) and Arkansas (109).
Northern Arizona is in the top spot for the third straight week, picking up all 12 first-place votes for 360 points. Stanford moved up from 11th to second (339) and Oregon is currently third (338). BYU placed fourth (322) this week and Arkansas rounds out the top five with 306 points.
In the regional rankings, which were released on Monday, the women's team is ranked first, while the men's team is third.
