Davis Price

Take Your Son to Work Day for a Proud Buffalo Airline Pilot

October 07, 2016 | Football

LOS ANGELES – In what has to be an extreme rarity, it definitely is a first for the University of Colorado football team, Buffalo true freshman kicker Davis Price's father, Doug, flew CU's team charter flight out to Los Angeles Friday in advance of the Buffs Pac-12 tilt at Southern California on Saturday (2 p.m. MT/Pac-12 Network).

The younger Price is the reigning Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week after he set a CU freshman record by connecting on a 54-yard field goal attempt – on his very first career try nonetheless – in last week's 47-6 win over Oregon State that pushed CU's record up to 4-1 on the season.

The elder Price is an extremely proud father right now. He is also a proud Buff, as he graduated from the University of Colorado after growing up in southern California.

Doug entered the Air Force upon graduation and flew F-16's while in the service (he was stationed at Buckley Air Force Base for 13 years) and since has been a commercial pilot for United for the last 20 years. These days Doug said he flies primarily military charter flights – Friday's flight was the first time he has piloted a Division I football teams' trip to an away game. Doug has brought U.S. soldiers back from overseas, a job that brings him much pride in returning our soldiers safely back home.

This trip however was a special one for Doug as he said he was really excited to have Davis see him in action and know what he has been doing all these years while he was away at work.

Davis, a freshman from Evergreen who opened school studying business at Colorado this fall, has recently started to show a little interest in following his father's footsteps in aviation. Maybe seeing his father in action will further enhance Davis' interest in flying.

With both Doug and his wife Kerri having southern California roots, Doug said that the Price family will have a lot of friends going to Saturday's CU-USC game. Kerri (who ran track at Long Beach State and ran the 800-meter run in the Olympic Trials), is also flying out to Los Angeles with their two youngest boys. The entire Price family will proudly be sitting in the CU section at the Los Angeles Coliseum on Saturday cheering on Davis and the Buffaloes.

For now though, both Doug and Davis are on business trips this weekend to Los Angeles. Doug is playing the all-important role of safely getting the Buffaloes to the game and back home (flight out there was as smooth as can be). On the field, Davis will be key in the Buffaloes efforts against the Trojans, not just putting points on the scoreboard by kicking field goals and PATs, but also on kickoffs helping to prevent USC's dangerous return man Adoree' Jackson from generating big plays in special teams.
