PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Colorado's Nuria Ormeño Ruiz was eliminated on Friday from the Back Draw of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. She fell in the Round of 32 yesterday to North Carolina's Sara Daavettila.
On Friday Ormeño Ruiz fell 6-4, 6-0 to the No. 2-ranked player in the country, Pepperdine's Luisa Stefani. Ormeño Ruiz led 4-3 in the first set, but could not hold her momentum. She trailed a break early in the first set before gaining that break back to get to 4-3.

On the efforts of Nuria on Friday
"Today Nuria continued to compete with heart. There were several elements of her game where she may have been out of her comfort zone, but she did a solid job with creating opportunities. It was a great effort against the No. 2 player in the country and I'm really proud of the tournament she played. This [week] has been great for Nuria to see where she is now and it is only going to be more exciting to see where she continues to grow in her game throughout the year. The next opportunity comes next week in Albuquerque to keep growing on the areas that we have pinpointed from this week. The future continues to be bright."
