Three-year starter will be ready to participate in fall camp

LOS ANGELES — When the Colorado Buffaloes open practice Aug. 4, senior quarterback Sefo Liufau will be ready to go.

CU head coach Mike MacIntyre confirmed Thursday morning that Liufau, who has been rehabilitating a Lisfranc foot injury since last November, has been cleared to participate in fall camp drills.

"He's ready to go," MacIntyre said. "Obviously, we'll still be careful with him and take all necessary precautions. But his progress has been what we had hoped for. He worked extremely hard throughout the offseason to get to this point and we're counting on big things from him."

Liufau suffered the injury in the 11th game of the season, the Nov. 13 game against USC.

"I'm ready to go," Liufau said. "Trainers and coaches are still going to be cautious, but I'll see everyone in August. Since the day it happened, I was determined to come back and I worked hard to make it happen. Now I'm ready to play football."

Liufau, a three-year starter, holds 75 program records with nine more significant marks within reach.

The Buffs report for camp on Wednesday, Aug. 3, and open practice on Aug. 4.

CU opens the season Friday, Sept. 2, with a 6 p.m. game against Colorado State at Sports Authority Field in Denver.

LINDSAY ON LIST: The national watch list for the Doak Walker Award has been released, and Colorado junior running back Phillip Lindsay is one of 58 candidates on the preseason the list. Lindsay was CU's leading rusher last season, finishing with 653 yards and six touchdowns on 140 carries. Colorado has one previous winner of the award, given to the nation's top running back. Rashaan Salaam was presented the award in 1994.
