Miller To Tour Italy With Athletes In Action

July 21, 2016 | Men's Basketball

BOULDER – University of Colorado junior Tory Miller will compete with Athletes in Action in a four-game basketball tour of Italy, August 13-20.

A 6-foot, 9-inch forward from Kansas City, Kan., Miller is the latest in a line of Buffaloes who have participated in Athletes in Action in recent years, including Levi Knutson and Austin Dufault.

The team will train at Mercer University in Macon, Ga., from Aug. 9-11, before heading to Milan. Athletes in Action is scheduled to play games against teams from Italy, Lithuania and Kosovo with some sight-seeing time in Como and Venice.

The roster is comprised of 10 student-athletes from all areas of the country and will be led by Mercer head coach Bob Hoffman.

For Miller, this will be his first time traveling overseas. He doesn't know anyone on the team, although Hampton's Akim Mitchell played against Colorado this past season, and Joe Rosga is a local tie from the University of Denver, but he's "looking forward to meeting the guys and building relationships with them."

"I plan on playing it by ear, really letting the experience come to me," Miller said. "I have an open mind about everything. It should be fun."

Miller has been home in Kansas City this month, splitting time between the gym and an internship with SE3, an environmental engineering firm.

He averaged 5.5 points and 4.6 rebounds in 33 games as a sophomore, hitting 47 percent from the field. Miller was a key contributor on a fantastic Colorado front line that included All-Pac-12 Conference forward Josh Scott and league All-Defensive Team honorable mention Wesley Gordon.

Miller has been fine tuning his game this summer, working on conditioning, lateral speed and explosiveness. With Scott gone to graduation, he is looking take that next step as an upperclassman, and these games overseas will help that direction.

"Playing against teams from another country, seeing other styles of basketball, is something I've looked forward to doing for a while," Miller said.
