Mosley Accepts Head Coaching Position At Appalachian State

July 06, 2016 | Tennis

BOULDER - Colorado assistant tennis coach Blake Mosley announced on Wednesday he is stepping down to accept the head coaching position at Appalachian State University. He spent the past three seasons as a full-time assistant with the Buffaloes under head coach Nicole Kenneally, helping the Buffs to their three best seasons in recent history.

"I am really happy for Blake and his family as this is a great opportunity," Kenneally said. "App State is lucky to have him. We thank Blake for the good work that he put in over the last three years. He has worked hard and put in the time to lead a team such as App State. I believe he will make an immediate positive impact in the Sun Belt Conference with the program. Blake brings a great skill set and will provide an environment that will benefit the players in bringing out their best. It will be fun to see the progress of the program from afar."

He and Kenneally have helped CU to 26 wins over the past three seasons. In his second season in Boulder, the Julyette Steur and Kyra Wojcik became the first doubles pair in school history to win a regional championship and qualify for the ITA/USTA National Indoors Championships. Last October, Nuria Ormeño Ruiz became the first singles player to achieve that in school history.

The team's 11 wins in 2014-15 were the most since the 2009-10 season, and for the first time since joining the Pac-12 Conference, two doubles pairs advanced past the first round at the conference tournament. In 2015-16, two singles players reached the second round for the first time.

Over Mosley's three seasons with Kenneally, CU had four all-Pac-12 players and the past two ITA Mountain Region Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award winners in Steur and Ormeño Ruiz. Five players have earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors as well.

This will be the second collegiate head coaching stint of Mosley's career. He served as head coach at Chaminade University for five seasons and was the NCAA Division II West Region Coach of the Year in 2010. Altogether, he has 26 years of coaching experience between the collegiate and professional ranks.

"I'd like to thank coach Nicole for the great experience these past three years," Mosley said. "I'd also like to thank all the players that I've been lucky enough to coach here at CU and our train of administrators and support staff. They have made this time incredible and have really helped me grow as a coach and leader. Go Buffs!"

Mosley will replace Colin Crothers at Appalachian State, who had served as head coach for 19 seasons. Mosley will take over a Mountaineers program that finished 7-14 in 2015-16.
