Former Buffs Competing At LPGA Q-School

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – A pair of former University of Colorado women golfers are preparing to compete in the first stage of LPGA and Symetra Tour Qualifying School, which begins here Thursday at Mission Hills Country Club and West Mission Hills Resort.

Alexis Keating, an Elma, Wash. native and Jamie Oleksiew from Vancouver, British Columbia both graduated in May and are two of 347 golfers looking to advance to Stage II of the three-stage LPGA qualifying process. The first stage will play out over four days, Thursday, Aug. 25 – Sunday, Aug. 28, with 72 holes of stroke-play competition. The entire field is set to play one round each on the Palmer, Dinah Shore and Gary Player courses and then a cut will be made after the conclusion of the third round. Golfers advancing to the final round will play the Dinah Shore Course for a second time.

All players who complete 54 holes will receive Symetra Tour status for 2017 and those who qualify for Stage II will compete in another 72-hole competition later this fall. A minimum of the top 60 will move on, however a final number is to be determined prior to the start of Stage I.

If Keating and Oleksiew advance, they will meet-up with another pair of CU alumna as Jenny and Kristin Coleman (2014), already members of the Symetra Tour have qualified for the second stage of Q-School. The twin sisters have automatically moved to the second stage after ranking inside the top 150 on the 2016 Symetra Tour money list. Jenny is currently 36th overall earning $19,019 and Kristin is 131st with $2,817.

Qualifying School Stage II will take place Thursday, Oct. 20 – Sunday, Oct. 23 at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Fla.
