BOULDER — Former Colorado star and current New England Patriots tackle Nate Solder is now in line to win his third Super Bowl ring, adding to the hardware he picked up in 2014 and 2016.

If the Patriots defeat Philadelphia in Super Bowl LII, Solder will become the fourth Buff to win three rings, joining Tom Ashworth and Ted Johnson (Patriots) and Cliff Branch (Raiders).

Overall, 35 different Buffs have accounted for 52 Super Bowl rings over the years.

The list begins with former CU quarterback Boyd Dowler, who switched to wide receiver when he began playing with the Green Bay Packers, with whom he picked up a pair of rings in the first two Super Bowls ever played.

Dowler is one of 14 former Buffs with multiple rings. Along with Ashworth, Johnson, Branch and Solder, the list includes offensive lineman Matt Lepsis, defensive lineman Alfred Williams and punter Tom Rouen (Broncos); Dick Anderson (Dolphins), defensive back Mike L. Davis (Raiders), defensive back Odis McKinney (Raiders), punter Barry Helton (49ers), and tight ends Christian Fauria and Daniel Graham (Patriots).
