Buff duo honored for performance at Utah Invitational

SALT LAKE CITY — Colorado Nordic skiers Hedda Baangman and Petter Reistad have been named the RMISA Skiers of the Week for being the high point scorers at last weekend's Utah Invitational, the conference has announced.

This is the third straight season that Reistad has won the honor and the first time in the career of the freshman Baangman.

Baangman got up on the podium in both races of the Utah Invite that were held at the Rendezvous Ski Trails in West Yellowstone, Mont. She won the 5K Classic race on Thursday for her second consecutive victory in the discipline and then finished third in the 15K freestyle skate on Friday. Baangman, from Oestersund, Sweden, has now has hit the podium in three out of her last four races on the NCAA circuit.

Reistad put together his best racing of the season in West Yellowstone. He opened it by placing second in the 10K classic race with a time of 26:44.0 that was just 1.6 second faster than Utah's Martin Bergstroem, who swept the men's Nordic titles at last winter's NCAA Championships, and was one contributing factor to the men's team edging the Utes 89-88 for the team race victory. Then on Friday he placed third in the 20K freestyle skate to record his third podium finish of the season and 11th for his career.

How you win a RMISA Skier of the Week Award is based on the following criteria:
          • Chosen for each meet based on NCAA qualification points. Associate/non-NCAA members are not eligible.
          • If there is a tie in points, it goes to lowest time differential for both races.
          • You can only win it once a season.
