Colorado has now picked up seven RMISA Skier of the Week honors this winter

SALT LAKE CITY — University of Colorado junior Nora Christensen and freshman Alvar Alev have been named the RMISA Skiers of the Week for women's alpine and men's Nordic, respectively, the league announced Tuesday.

This is the first time for the two they have received the honor.

Christensen was the top scorer on the women's alpine side at last week's New Mexico Invitational. In the two slalom races that were held, she finished third in the first one and won the second event on Sunday, her second slalom victory of the season. Her win on Sunday earned 40 team points for the Buffaloes and was a crucial factor in CU going on to win the New Mexico Invitational by just a 6½-point margin over Denver, which was the closest margin of victory for the Buffs since winning the 1999 NCAA West Regional Championship by four points.

On Sunday, Christensen got off to a good start by posting the fastest time of anyone in the field the first time down the hill, giving her four runs won so far this winter. She had the fastest run just twice in her first two seasons with the Buffaloes.

Christensen has now been on the podium in all four slalom races this season and the only RMISA skier, men's or women's, who has finished third or better in all four slaloms.

Alev was the top Buffalo men's scorer – Nordic or alpine - at the New Mexico Invitational.

He opened the weekend by placing fifth in the 21K freestyle skate, the longest race of the season on the NCAA circuit. Then on Sunday, he finished third in the 5K classic race that the men's team as a whole won by a four-point margin over Utah. That was the first podium finish of his career.

Colorado now has seven RMISA Skier of the Week selections this year, matching the number the Buffs earned last winter and it is the most since 2011 when eight Buffs won the award. The eight selections that year are the most since the RMISA started announcing skiers of the week back in 2005.

How you win a RMISA Skier of the Week Award is based on the following criteria:
          • Chosen for each meet based on NCAA qualification points. Associate/non-NCAA members are not eligible.
          • If there is a tie in points, it goes to lowest time differential for both races.
          • You can only win it once a season.

Colorado is back in action this weekend at the Denver Invitational that he being held at Loveland Ski Area (alpine) and Maloit Park Trails (Nordic). The racing opens on Friday with the men's and women's giant slalom.
