26th Annual Event Set For Wednesday
BOULDER -- The University of Colorado football program will host its annual Pro Timing Day this Wednesday (March 7), at 2:00 p.m. in the school's Indoor Practice Facility adjacent to Folsom Field (northwest side).Â
Sixteen Buffaloes are scheduled to work out, 15 from last year's team and one, placekicker Diego Gonzalez, from the '16 team as he was recovering from a torn Achilles tendon this time a year ago. There were 47 representatives from 31 National Football League and one Canadian Football League teams that attended (Cincinnati was the lone NFL team not to come). That included a nine-member contingent from the Denver Broncos, including John Elway (president of football operations and general manager) and former Buffaloes Vance Joseph (head coach) and Matt Russell (director of player personnel).
The event is open to the public (there is no charge, other than parking at available university meters or pay lots). Notes, teams attending and players working out follow:

26th Annual Colorado Pro-Timing Day Notes
- Colorado held its first pro-timing day in April 1993, one of the first schools to host their own event;
- Colorado has had 270 players selected in the NFL Draft, which ranks 22nd all-time (fourth among Pac-12 schools, behind USC (502, #1), UCLA (315, #15) and Washington (292, #17); Stanford is next (256, #27);
- CU has had 24 players selected in the first round (tied for 26th all-time, and tied for fourth in the Pac-12);
- The last Buffaloes to be selected in the first round were in the 2011 Draft: Nate Solder, OT (#17, New England), Jimmy Smith, CB (#27, Baltimore);
- Green Bay has drafted more CU players than any other NFL team (18), followed by Philadelphia (16) and Cleveland (15);
- Denver has drafted 14 Buffs (the last in 1980: Laval Short, NT); however, the Broncos have had more CU players (40) on their in-season rosters than any other team;
- The Cardinal franchise (Chicago/St. Louis/Arizona) and the New York Giants have also selected 13 Buffaloes;
- Cleveland and Dallas have drafted the most Buffaloes this millennium (4); four others have selected three;
- The only team never to draft a Buffalo are the Houston Texans; of the 31 franchises that have, the longest time without selecting a CU athlete belongs to Tampa Bay (1976, Steve Young, OT) and Minnesota (1977, Jim Kelleher, RB);
- Kelleher was the last pick in the '77 draft, the second to be known as "Mr. Irrelevant" (which was the tag given the last pick of the draft starting in 1976. Colorado is one of four schools to have two players bestowed with the honor (with Northwestern State, South Carolina and Weber State). The second Buff drafted last was Randy Essington (QB, 1984).
- Isaiah Oliver is the ninth CU underclassmen to declare early for the NFL Draft; all eight previously have been selected;
- In 2017, 26 teams scouted the Buffaloes on game days: Arizona, Atlanta, Baltimore, Buffalo, Carolina, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, L.A. Chargers, L.A. Rams, New England, New Orleans, N.Y. Giants, N.Y. Jets, Oakland, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, Tampa Bay, Tennessee and Washington. Not including camps or practices, 893 scouts have attended Colorado games since 2000 (home, road and neutral sites);
- At the 2016 UCLA game in Boulder, the record for a CU game occurred: 31 scouts from 20 teams were in attendance for the game (20 at USC this year).
