Fan Wins Co-Medalist Honors at Meadow Club Women’s Collegiate

FAIRFAX, Calif. – University of Colorado golfer Brittany Fan shot a 1-over par 73 in the final round of the Meadow Club Women's Collegiate here Tuesday, to tie for medalist honors. Fan finished with a 67-73—140 or 4-under par final scorecard to tie for first place with Samantha Gong of San Francisco. This marks the senior's first career tournament win.
"It feels great to get first win," senior Brittany Fan said. "I wasn't quite as sharp as the first day, but there are a lot of positives to take from this tournament, to the next."
As a team, the Buffs shot 9-over par in the final round on Tuesday to post a 291-297—588 or 12-over par to finish in fourth place for the tournament held at the par 72, 6,157-yard Meadow Club. CU's fourth place finish is the team's sixth top-five finish this season.
No. 15 ranked Washington won the team title and was the only team under par at 3-under par 573. 10 strokes back in second-place was San Francisco with at 7-over par, 583 while Oregon State climbed one place to finish third (10-over par 586). Just two strokes behind third-place was CU at 12-over par, 588 and No. 22 ranked Illinois finished in fifth at 16-over par 592.
Brittany Fan tied for first place with a 4-under par or 67-73—140 final scorecard. This marks Fan's 12th consecutive top-20 finish, continuing from the 2017 season, which moves her up the record books into third all-time for CU. Esther Lee owns the most consecutive top-20 finishes with 18. Fan started the day off with a birdie on hole No. 1 and coasted through the front nine recording a 1-under par. Fan shot the only eagle in the field on hole No.15 and also collected a team high nine birdies. Fan also finished first in par-five scoring averaging 4.38 strokes.
"Going into the final round today leading the field, I tried to not look at messages or media," Fan said. "Because that is the kind of stuff you don't want in your head when you play. You have to be able to keep that stuff out."
Robyn Choi moved up one spot on the leader board to finish in a three-way tie for third place with a 2-under par 142. This is Choi's fifth top-five finish this season. Choi teed off at hole No. 1 and coasted through her front nine carding two bogeys against one birdie and on the back side evened it back out with two birdies and one bogey. Choi carded a 70-72—142 final scorecard and collected the most pars on the team with 26.
Freshman Alisha Lau fell three places to finish tied for 37th place. Lau was a little up and down through her front nine with two birdies a bogey and a double to go 1-over par. Lau added three bogeys and six pars to finish the day at 4-over par 76 to give her a 36-hole scorecard of 75-76—151.
Kirsty Hodgkins moved up six places to tie for 76th place after shaving six strokes off her first-round score. Hodgkins carded a two-round scorecard of 82-76—158 and finished with three birdies and 17 pars.
"Kirsty did struggle a little this week," Fan said. "But she'll be back and running at the next event. It's a team effort, so sometimes you have to have each other's back."
Freshman Elle Otten finished her first career tournament tied for 70th place with a 79-78—257 scorecard.
