Brown & Kiernan Sweep Pac-12 Player Of The Week Honors Again

BOULDER — For the second straight week, Darby Kiernan has been named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week and Sarah Brown has picked up the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week honor.

No. 15 Colorado (11-4, 8-1 Pac-12) recorded a pair of Pac-12 wins last week to clinch at least a share of the regular season Pac-12 Championship. The Buffs recorded a thrilling 11-10 upset of Stanford in overtime on Friday night under the lights at Stanford Stadium, which also earned CU a season sweep of the Cardinal. The Buffs followed up that win with an 18-11 victory over the California Bears to sweep that season series.

Brown recorded six caused turnovers in addition to eight ground balls and eight draw controls in the pair of wins. Against Stanford, Brown led both teams with five caused turnovers and had five ground balls. She also recorded three draw controls. Then against California, Brown earned five draw controls and added three ground balls and one caused turnover.

Kiernan led the Buffs with 12 points, 10 goals and two assists, as well as 12 draw controls last week. In the overtime thriller against Stanford, Kiernan led both teams with eight draw controls and added two goals. She had a career-day against California with 10 points to set a CU single-game record. She scored seven goals, which tied a CU single-game record, and added three assists. She also set the CU career assist record in the game, passing the former record of 64; she currently has 67. Kiernan was 4-7 from the free-position arc and eight of her 10 shots were on goal against the Bears.

This is the second Pac-12 honor for Brown, while it is the fourth for Kiernan. In total, CU has earned conference player of the week honors eight times this season. This is the third time this season CU has swept the weekly conference awards.
