Kiernan, Lisella Named To Tewaaraton Award Top 25 List

BOULDER — A pair of Colorado Buffaloes, Darby Kiernan and Julia Lisella, have been named to the Tewaaraton Award's top-25 list of nominees, as announced on Thursday morning.

The Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the pre-eminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. Five women's finalists will be selected from this group on Thursday, May 10.

Kiernan is a senior attacker for the Buffs. She currently leads the Pac-12 in goals per game (3.56), points per game (5.60), draw controls per game (7.00) and free-position goals per game (1.10). Nationally Kiernan is fifth in draw controls per game, 13th in points per game, 14th in goals per game and 20th in free-position goals per game.

Lisella, a redshirt sophomore goalie, leads the Pac-12 in goals against average (8.25) and save percentage (0.534). Nationally she is third in goals against average and is fifth in save percentage. Lisella has recorded an 11-2 record for the Buffs this season.

The duo have helped the Buffs to a 12-4 overall record this season, as well a 9-1 mark to earn the Pac-12 regular season championship. CU is ranked 14th in the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll and will play its first game in the Pac-12 Tournament on Friday, April 26, at 1 p.m. at Prentup Field.

This year's list of women's nominees features players from 15 different schools, led by Boston College, University of Maryland, and Northwestern with three apiece. Returning this year are 2017 finalists Marie McCool (North Carolina) and Kylie Ohmiller (Stony Brook). In all, six players return from the 2017 list of nominees.
