Buffs Add Versatile Offensive Lineman With Signing of Kary Kutsch

Kutsch was a first-team All-California Community College Region I selection playing tackle for Butte College in 2017

BOULDER – Kary Kutsch, a 6-4, 300-pound offensive lineman, signed a financial aid agreement with the Colorado football program and is scheduled to enroll at CU this summer, head coach Mike MacIntyre announced Friday afternoon.

A native of Redding, Calif., Kutsch comes to CU after one season at Butte College where he was 2017 All-California Community College Region I first-team selection.

"We are excited about Kary, he is a big, athletic offensive lineman," MacIntyre said. "He can play offensive tackle, he can play guard, he can play center, but we're looking for him to come in and compete at our tackle spot."

Kutsch (full name is pronounced Car-e Kush, like push but with a k) will have four years to play three in eligibility at Colorado.

His versatility, not just to play multiple positions on the line, but being a multi-sport athlete, were attractive attributes that the Buffalo coaching staff liked about Kutsch.

"He threw the shot put and discus in track and at offensive tackle he is very physical, he is already over 300 pounds and is over 6-4," MacIntyre said. "He will bring a powerful presence for us on the offensive line."

Kutsch is the first known Buff to sign out of Redding, Calif., although back in the 2013 recruiting class inside linebacker Addison Gillam came to CU from Palo Cedro, Calif., which is just outside of Redding.

He is the second player Colorado has signed out of Butte College, the other being WR Wesley Christensen, also in 2013.

Under coach Rob Snelling, the Butte College Roadrunners went 5-6 in 2017 and Kutsch helped its offense average 360 yards per game and 30 points in conference play.

He earned All-Eastern Athletic League honors as a senior in 2016 at Shasta High School.

Kutsch is the fourth offensive linemen in the 2018 recruiting class, joining Frank Fillip, Joshua Jynes and Kanan Ray, as the Buffaloes continue to bolster their offensive line with talented prospects.
