Colorado Picked 10th in Pac-12 Preseason Poll
August 12, 2019 | Volleyball
SAN FRANCISCO – Colorado women's volleyball team has been selected 10th in the Pac-12 Preseason Coaches' Poll, the conference announced this afternoon.
Colorado received 44 points for 10th, just a point behind California and Washington State that are tied for eighth. Defending national champion Stanford received 121 points and 11 first-place votes to lead the poll.
USC came in second with 104 points, while Oregon received a first-place vote with 99 points.
The conference coaches showed the inconsistency of the Pac-12, with numerous teams separated by just a few points. Stanford and USC seem separated, but Oregon and Washington are separated by just a single vote for third and fourth. Utah, Arizona and UCLA are all separated by just five points with 68, 65 and 63 points, respectfully. After the three spots separated by a point with Colorado close to Washington State and California, Arizona State and Oregon State are separated by five points with ASU leading with 23.
Every match in the Pac-12 matters, as shown by the voting. Last season, Colorado finished 10-10 in a three-way tie for sixth with Utah and Washington State. With the losses of All-Americans Alexa Smith and Naghede Abu, the Buffs are looking to reload with nine new additions, seven of which are freshmen.
The Preseason All-Pac-12 team was also released, though no CU players were named to it. Stanford racked up five of the 14 spots, with Oregon and USC taking three spots each, followed by individuals from Utah, UCLA and Washington.
CU opens the season Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. at home against Wyoming.
