2018-19 (Sr.) – Vance continued to be a strong member of the team in her final season, playing in all 11 tournaments. She ranked third on the team with a 76.94 stroke average. In the fall she averaged 75.33, while in the spring she recorded a 78.28. Her first tournament of the year, the Branch Law/Dick McGuire Invitational, saw her record a 220 (4-over), with rounds of 72-74-74. Vance had 27 round of her 33 rounds in the 70s. She played twice as an individual, and scored for the team in 23 of 27 rounds. Vance’s 33 rounds is fifth in CU’s record book for most rounds by a senior.
2017-18 (Jr.)—Vance was CU’s No. 5 golfer for most of the year and came up huge for the Buffs at the NCAA San Francisco Regional. Her 2-over 74 in the first round was her second-best round of the spring and provided the depth and scoring the Buffaloes needed to place second after day one. Vance held steady for the rest of the tournament, finishing with a 12-over 228, her second-best 54-hole score of the spring. She placed 36 rounds during the fall and spring, which put her in a tie for eighth in the CU single season record book and is the junior record. Vance qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur in the summer after tying for second at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Qualifer in Colorado. She shot a 1-under 71 to advance.
2016-17 (So.)—Vance played in five tournaments and in 19 rounds in her sophomore year. She was CU’s No. 5 golfer in overall rounds played with a stroke average of 78.37. She competed in all 11 rounds of fall play with her best tournament came at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational a fall event where the team finished third overall. Vance finished tied for seventh with a final scorecard of 73-74-74—221 or 5-over par. She collected 14 rounds in the 70s, 190 pars and 27 birdies on the year.
2015-16 (Fr.)—In her debut season for the black and golf, Vance played in eight team tournaments and one individual event. In 24 rounds, she recorded a 76.46 stroke average with 74 percent of her rounds (14/19) counting toward team scoring. Vance’s best finish came during postseason play when she finished tied for 33rd overall at the NCAA West Regional in Stanford, Calif. Vance posted a 75-75-73—223 or 10-over par, which was also her second-lowest score in a 54-hole event. The first-year Buff recorded two even-par rounds and was fifth on the team with 38 birdies and 255 pars.
High School—Vance earned four letters in golf and two in cross country during her four years at Dakota Ridge High School in Littleton, Colo. All four years of her prep career she was All-Conference in golf and All-State her sophomore year. As a freshman, she was also named the 5A Regional Champion and her senior year, earned a place on the honor roll. Vance recalls her biggest moment of her high school career as earning an opportunity to compete in the U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur tournament and qualifying for the first USGA Women’s Four-Ball Championship at Bandon Dunes in Bandon, Ore.
Other—In 2013, Vance placed 17th in the Optimist International Championships and is also a Junior Amateur qualifier medalist. Entering the Optimist International Championships again in 2014 she was in the top 25. In May 2015, she participated in the inaugural USGA Four-Ball Championship.
Best Career Round in Competition—71 (2018; Walnut Creek Golf Preserve, U.S. Women’s Amateur Qualifier in Colorado).
Academics—Vance is a public relations major with a minor in political science. She also has a GPA greater than 3.00.
Personal—Gillian Vance was born on October 25, 1997 in Denver, Colo. to parents Michael and Jamie Vance. She has two older brothers, Cody, who just became a professional golfer and Drew, who is a golfer at Regis University in Denver. She is related to Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Dazzy Vance and her grandfather was a swimmer CU. Vance enjoys running marathons, cooking, and yoga and recently took third place in her age group of the Rock-N-Roll Half Marathon. She chose to attend the University of Colorado because she loves the program and coaches, and believes the coaching staff can bring her game to the next level.
