Ties For Sixth In Standings
DENVER — Four individuals from the University of Colorado men's golf team competed here this weekend in Colorado Mines' Bob Writz Invitational, absent the remainder of any teammates, thus no team result was posted.
Sophomore Ross Macdonald turned in the best performance, as he tied for sixth with a 72-77—149 scorecard (5-over par). He had seven birdies, 19 pars, eight bogeys and two doubles in creating his score on the 7,276-yard, par-72 Bear Creek Golf Club course here in southwest Denver.
Senior Kade Crossland tied for 21st with an 80-75—155 effort (11-over), followed by freshman Trevor Olkowski (81-75—156, tied for 25th) and frosh Cole Krantz (80-77—157, tied for 27th). Olkowski was in line to join just three others at or under par on the day through 16, but took a quadruple bogey 7 on the par-3 17th to sidetrack him from the potential accomplishment.
Colorado Mines' Tim Amundson was the medalist in the event, as he turned in a 74-72—146 performance (2-over), claiming a two-shot win over a quartet of others. He helped lead his Orediggers to the team title, as they posted a 590 score in the 36-hole event, outdistancing runner-up Colorado Christian by 14 strokes.
The Buffaloes return to action for their fifth straight major tournament in the state of California, Stanford's "The Goodwin," slated for Thursday through Saturday (March 29-31) in Palo Alto. CU is paired with Northwestern and San Francisco in the first round and will tee off at 1:25 p.m. MDT.
