Get To Know: Branen Berta

BOULDER - Over the course of the month, the Colorado volleyball team will help you get to know each of our players on the spring roster.

The first Buff we'd like to introduce you to is senior Branen Berta. Berta is a defensive specialist/libero from Aurora, Colo. She played the last three seasons at Iowa State and is excited to return home to Colorado to finish her collegiate career.

1. What is your favorite volleyball memory and why?

Honestly, I can't be specific and tell you my absolute favorite memory because there has been so many. But, I will tell you that I've met some of the greatest people in my life through volleyball.

2. Who is someone you look up to the most and why?

The person I look up to the most is mom. She is a strong, independent loving women and I try to be the best women I can be every day because of her. I really don't know how I got so lucky, I owe her for all of my success in life thus far.

3. Name a place you've always wanted to go to but never have been.

I've always wanted to go to Sicily, Italy. I'm half Italian and that's where my ancestors are from. Being how pasta is my first love and how I'm a hopeless romantic, I thought it'd be the perfect place for me.

4. Why did you choose to become a Colorado Buffalo?

I chose to become a Colorado Buffalo because I'm a Colorado native and nothing sounded more perfect then playing in my home state in front of my friends and family while attending a beautiful university.

5. What is your favorite TV show?

My favorite TV show is a hard question to answer because I never watch TV. But, I'm a huge movie buff and since that's kinda close to being the same thing, my favorite movie is Gladiator or Blood Diamond.

6. Where do you see yourself in five years from now?

5 years from now I see myself living in Colorado and being a snowboarding bum in the mountains.

7. If you had to be stranded on a deserted island with one person who would you want that one person to be?

If I was stranded on an island and I could only bring one person, I would definitely bring my best friend Jordan. I would be laughing more than worrying about how I'm going to get off this island.

8. Do you have any hidden talents?

My hidden talent is probably that I can wiggle my eyes

9. Did you play in any other sports growing up or in high school?

Growing up I played just about every sport you can name besides soccer and swimming. I have my orange belt in Taekwondo, watch out!

10. How many pairs of shoes do you currently own?

I have too many shoes to count!

11. Who is your best friend and how did you meet?

My best friend is Jordan White, we met in 8th grade over an intense gumball wrapper hockey game, haha. We just clicked right from the jump, he's probably the funniest person I know and he just gets me.

12. What is your favorite part about being at the University of Colorado?

My favorite part of being at the University of Colorado is waking up in the mornings and seeing the flatirons. I'm blessed to have that view in my backyard.

13. Name one celebrity you would like to meet and why?

One celebrity I would want to meet is probably Erykah Badu. She's my favorite female artist and has such a vibe for music, it's inspiring.
