Coach Sanchez won two national championships in six seasons
DENVER—Colorado soccer head coach Danny Sanchez will be inducted into the Metropolitan State University of Denver's Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday.
Â
Under Sanchez's lead, the Roadrunners became a dominant fixture in NCAA DII women's soccer. His teams went undefeated in the RMAC from 2003-06 and won two national championships.
Â
Sanchez compiled a record of 128-11-7 in his six-year tenure at MSU Denver. From 2002-2007, Sanchez coached the Roadrunners to six NCAA Tournament appearances, six Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season championships and three RMAC Tournament championships.
Â
Sanchez surrounded himself with talent at MSU Denver. He coached two different National Soccer Coaches Association of America Players of the Year. Ymara Gaunte and Kylee Hanavan each earned the honor in 2004 and 2006, respectively. His players also earned 27 NSCAA All-Region awards, 17 NSCAA All-Americans, three RMAC Newcomer/Freshman of the Years and three RMAC Defensive Player of the Years.
Â
Academically, the Roadrunners had 25 Academic All-Conference players and four Academic All-District selections during Sanchez's time. One of his players, Rachel Zollner, was a two-time first team Academic All-American.
Â
Individually, Sanchez was hard to top as a Roadrunner. He won the RMAC's Coach of the Year all six seasons and was a four-time regional Coach of the Year. Sanchez was voted the 2004 NSCAA National Coach of the Year, following the Roadrunners first national title.
Â
The RMAC voted him its All-Time Top Coach and he was also inducted into the RMAC Hall of Fame this past July. Â
Â
The Hall of Fame ceremony is at the Auraria Event Center at 7:30 p.m.
