Klecker And Abu Named CU Athletes Of The Week, Presented By Arrow

BOULDER – Volleyball middle Naghede Abu and cross country's Joe Klecker were named the CU Athletes of the Week, presented by Arrow, for the period of Oct. 8-14.
Abu, a senior from Riverside, Calif., led the Buffs with 26 kills in two matches over the weekend. Against No. 14 Oregon, she hit .419 and had 17 kills and then hit .533 with nine kills in a sweep over Oregon State. She became the second player in program history to record 500 career blocks against the Beavers when she had six in the match.
Klecher, a junior from Minnetonka, Minn., ran his first race of the cross country season at the Pre-Nationals race, finishing fifth overall and helping the Buffs to a third place finish. He was 86th at the 2K mark but moved up 81 spots to fifth at the 5.8K split. He was able to hang on to that spot and finished in 23:55.1.

Monica Malinen, Tennis – Advanced to the Round of 16 at the ITA Regional Championships.
Brianna Schwartz, Cross Country – Led the women's team with a 23rd place finish at the Pre-Nationals race.
Daniel O'Loughlin, Men's Golf – Finished tied for fourth at Denver's Paintbrush Invitational.
Laviska Shenault, Football – Had nine receptions for 72 yards and two rushes for 46 yards and a touchdown in the Buffs 31-20 loss at Southern California.
