Klecker Named Region Athlete Of The Year
November 13, 2018 | Cross Country
NEW ORLEANS – For the second time in as many seasons, University of Colorado junior Joe Klecker has been named the USTFCCCA Mountain Region Men's Athlete of the Year.
Â
Klecker became the first Buff to win back-to-back region titles since Jorge Torres, who won three straight from 2000-02. He finished the 10-kilometer race in 29:16.6, bettering his mark of 30:13.6 in 2017. Throughout the race, he looked very comfortable and more in control than last year.
Â
At the finish, Klecker held off a pair of Northern Arizona runners, who finished second and third. Tyler Day was a little over two seconds behind Klecker (29:18.8) to finish second and Matthew Baxter was third (29:19.0).
Â
Colorado will compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships this Saturday, Nov. 17, in Madison, Wis. The women's 6k race is slated for a 9:45 a.m. MT start, while the men will run a 10k at 10:45 a.m. Â
