Klecker Named Region Athlete Of The Year

November 13, 2018 | Cross Country

NEW ORLEANS – For the second time in as many seasons, University of Colorado junior Joe Klecker has been named the USTFCCCA Mountain Region Men's Athlete of the Year.

Klecker became the first Buff to win back-to-back region titles since Jorge Torres, who won three straight from 2000-02. He finished the 10-kilometer race in 29:16.6, bettering his mark of 30:13.6 in 2017. Throughout the race, he looked very comfortable and more in control than last year.

At the finish, Klecker held off a pair of Northern Arizona runners, who finished second and third. Tyler Day was a little over two seconds behind Klecker (29:18.8) to finish second and Matthew Baxter was third (29:19.0).

Colorado will compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships this Saturday, Nov. 17, in Madison, Wis. The women's 6k race is slated for a 9:45 a.m. MT start, while the men will run a 10k at 10:45 a.m.
