Colorado Slips To 21st In AVCA Poll

August 27, 2018 | Volleyball

LEXINGTON, Ky. — After starting the season 2-1, the University of Colorado volleyball team slipped to 21st in the latest AVCA Division I Coaches Poll, which was released on Monday.

The Buffs opened the season with a pair of wins against Oral Roberts (3-1) and North Florida (3-0), before falling just shy against Wyoming (2-3). CU is playing without senior middle blocker Naghede Abu, who is out due to injury. She is expected back in a few weeks.

The Pac-12 Conference is once again well represented in the poll with seven teams in the top 25. Stanford is the favorite, while Southern California is seventh. UCLA is ranked 10th   and Washington is 13th. Oregon (18th), Colorado (21st) and Utah (22nd) round out the poll for the league. In addition to seven teams in the poll, another three are receiving votes: Washington State, Oregon State and Arizona.

Colorado will stay on the road this week for the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge in Seattle. The Buffs will face No. 11 Illinois on Friday, August 31, and Iowa on Saturday, Sept. 1. Both matches are scheduled for 6 p.m. MT and will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
