BOULDER — The 2018 Colorado lacrosse team had a season to remember last spring, and on Sunday, the team got back together to celebrate its campaign.
Â
The 14-6 Buffs won their first NCAA Tournament game in addition to earning a 9-1 mark en route to becoming the inaugural regular season Pac-12 Champions.Â
Â
Head coach Ann Elliott welcomed the crowd at the start of the banquet and thanked the members of her staff, support staff and family for their assistance during the last season.
Â
She went on to talk about the season, which included the team's tough start to the year with the death of Julia Sarcona in January. Once the season started, the Buffs went 1-2, which could have derailed the team's season, but the Buffs rallied and showed they were going to be a team to take seriously as they went on to qualify for their second straight NCAA Tournament. "We are very proud of you and everything you achieved," Elliott said.
Â
After recapping the season, Elliott handed out awards. First up, were the All-Pac-12 awards. Sarah Brown, Julia Lisella, Darby Kiernan and Miranda Stinson received their first team awards, while Kelsie Garrison picked up her second team award.
Â
Three Buffs earned IWLCA All-America honors. Brown and Lisella were named to the first team, while Kiernan was tabbed to the second team. Lisella was also the first Buff to earn and individual award from the IWLCA as the Goalkeeper of the Year
Â
Those three, in addition to Stinson also earned all-region honors. Â
Â
There were also several academic award to be handed out, starting with the Pac-12 All-Academic Team. Olivia Aschman and Audrey Kingdom were named to the first team, while Carly Cox was selected to the second team. Seven others were named to the honorable mention team: Brown, Sophie Castillo, Anna Collawn, Garrison, Lisella, Samantha Nemirov and Caroline Perry.
Â
As a team, the Buffs earned the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Team award and had five named to the academic honor roll: Aschman, Brown, Cox, Sydney Evensen and Sophia Gambitsky.
Â
Each class also received their letter awards at the banquet. In addition to letter awards, the team was also given their inaugural regular season Pac-12 Champions rings.
Â
After an emotional speech by Brown, the crowd was treated to the banquet highlight video.
