October 18, 2019 | General, Men's Golf, Tennis

BOULDER - Men's golf's Daniel O'Loughlin and women's tennis' Sara Nayar and Monica Malinen were named CU Athletes of the Week, presented by Arrow, for the week of Oct. 7-14.

It's the second CU Athlete of the Week honor for O'Loughlin this season.

O'Loughlin, a senior from Nottingham, England, shared medalist honors with two others, leading CU to its seventh straight win in its own Mark Simpson-CU Invitational. He had a 12-under par 204 (69-67-68) total on the 7,703-yard, par-72 Colorado National Golf Club course layout.

O'Loughlin had 16 birdies and 34 pars with just four bogeys en route to his second career win. He played both the par-4 and par-5 holes the best in the field, as he was 7-under on both combined throughout the three rounds. The 204 tied four others for the lowest score for a 54-hole tournament in school history.

The doubles pair of Nayar and Malinen upset the No. 5 and No. 38-ranked doubles pair in the nation in the ITA All-American Championships to advance to the main draw quarterfinal, a first in school history.

Women's Golf - Kirsty Hodgkins

Senior Kirsty Hodgkins tied for second at the Betsy Rawls Invitational in Austin, Texas. She shot a 10-under 206 with sub-par rounds of 71, 67 and 68. Her scorecard is the second-best 54 hole par 72 score in school history and is the lowest for Hodgkins in two seasons. During the two-day event, she recorded 14 birdies and 36 pars. This was Hodgkins' second top-five finish of the year. She is now the CU career leader in top-five finishes with nine. This season she has recorded three rounds in the 60s, which is tied for third on the single-season chart. Her 10 career rounds in the 60s is second in CU's record book.

Tompkins made 19 saves for the Buffaloes this past weekend. She opened the week with eight saves against UCLA and finished with a season-high of 11 saves against USC. In the process, Tompkins passes Sloane Cox to become CU's all-time career Seaver's leader with 322.
