BOULDER — One of the most prolific players in University of Colorado women's lacrosse history, Darby Kiernan, is rejoining her alma mater, this time as a volunteer assistant coach.

CU head coach Ann Elliott Whidden announced Kiernan's return this week. A four-year starter who played all aspects of the game, she will be a great addition to the staff.

"We are really excited to have Darby back as a volunteer coach and to have her work with us on a daily basis," Whidden said. "Her knowledge and passion for the game brings a lot to our team. With draws in specific, it is great to have her work with our players. It is also great to have her work with our offense. We are really excited about the staff we have, what Darby adds to it, and what we are going to be able to do down the stretch."

"It feels really good to be back," Kiernan said. "I'm super excited. I am looking forward to coaching this team and teaching them as much as I can."

Kiernan's list of accomplishments is a mile long, which includes a pair of All-America honors. She finished her career on top of six categories in the CU record book: points (287), goals (210), assists (77), draw controls (369), man-down goals (three) and games started (75). Individually, she is the season leader in points (101), goals (70), assists (31), draw controls (159), man-down goals (two) and free-position goals (23). Kiernan also owns four individual game records in points (12), goals (seven), draw controls (19) and free-position goals (four).

She played in 76 games for CU and started in all but one. During her time, she was named to the all-conference team three times and was an all-region team member twice. She was named a conference player of the week eight times and earn national player of the week honors four times. At the time of her graduation, she was the only Buff to be named to the Tewaaraton Watch List twice and made the top 25 list in 2018.

Kiernan will round out Whidden's staff, which includes associate head coach Alex Frank, assistant coach Mitch Fenton and graduate assistant Carly Cox.
