Buff Individuals Fare Well In CSU's Annual Ram Masters Invite

Macdonald, Matteson Tie For 13th
FORT COLLINS — The University of Colorado men's golf team did not participate as a full squad in the annual Colorado State Ram Masters Invitational, but two Buffaloes trekked up north to play as individuals and posted solid finishes here Tuesday.
Senior Ross Macdonald and redshirt frosh Adam Matteson both tied for 13th with identical even-par 210 scores on the 7,121-yard, par-70 Fort Collins Country Club course layout.
Macdonald had nine birdies, 37 pars – tied for ninth-most in the field – seven bogeys and a double en route to his score, his ninth career tournament where he finished either even or under par. In recording rounds of 71, 68 and 71, it marked his 15th career round in the 60s. He tied with three others playing the par-3 holes the best here, collectively playing the dozen short ones at 1-under par.
Matteson turned in rounds of 69, 71 and 70, with 12 birdies, 30 pars and 12 bogeys; his 12 birds tied for the fifth-most in the tournament. He played the par-4 holes at 2-under par, tied for second-best in the 96-man field, and one of just four of those players to be under par on the 4's. It was just his second tournament as a collegian and he scored both his first subpar and even par rounds.
Texas El-Paso's Oskar Ambrosius ran away with medalist honors, with his 65-68-68—201 performance (9-under par) good for a six shot win over a trio of players. As for the team competition, host CSU was the only school in the 17-team field under par, finishing with an 831 total (9-under), with Wyoming finishing second, some 14 strokes back at 845.
In all, 12 players shot under par and another three including the two Buffaloes leaving here with even-par efforts as the average score for nearly 300 rounds here was 73.08.
The Buffs return to action a week from Friday, as CU will once again compete in New Mexico's Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque on Sept. 27-28. Colorado is one of three teams to have played in all previous 67 Tucker events.
