Colorado hosted its annual end of the year banquet
BOULDER— The Colorado soccer season put a cap on the 2019 soccer season on Friday. The Buffaloes hosted their annual end of the year banquet, handing out team awards and celebrating the success of the past season.
Colorado finished the year 12-8-2 overall and was ranked as high as No. 17 in the nation. The 2019 season was highlighted with a return trip to the NCAA Tournament. It was CU's third tournament appearance in the last four years and 11th overall. Colorado, which was ranked as high as No. 17 during the season, advanced to the second round of the tournament, earning a trip to North Carolina.

Kornieck and Tompkins took home most of the hardware. The two outgoing seniors split the team's MVP honors and took home offensive and defensive MVP, respectively. Kornieck was also the winner of the Buff Cup.
Kornieck, the No. 3 overall selection by the Orland Pride in last week's NWSL Draft, became the first Colorado soccer player to surpass 100 career points in 2019. She totaled a career-high 12 goals and added six assists on her way to a career-best 30 points. Kornieck earned her second consecutive All-American honor (third-team) to go along with first-team All-Region and All-Conference accolades. Kornieck totaled four game-winning goals and five multi-point matches in 2019. she concluded the season with 1.36 points per game, ranking fourth in CU history.
Tompkins wrapped up 2019 as the program's all-time leader in wins (49) and saves (369). A second-team All-Pacific Region honoree, Tompkins recorded 12 wins and ranked fifth in the NCAA with 2046:25 minutes played this past season. She finished the year with 101 saves and eight solo shutouts. Tompkins posted a 1.19 goals-against average and a. 789 save percentage.
Cardenas was one five Buffs named to the inaugural Pac-12 Fall Academic Honor Roll. The redshirt sophomore started all 22 matches for CU, bouncing back from a knee injury in 2018. She led all field players, playing 1978. Cardenas helped solidify the Buffs' backline, playing a key role in the team's eight shutouts.
Shymka started 16 of the 22 matches in her senior season. The Calgary, Alberta native, scored her lone goal of the season in the Buffs' 6-0 win over Northern Colorado in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Shymka played a career-high 1193 minutes and recorded two assists, matching her career-high in points.
Barton led all freshman in scoring, totaling 13 points. The Littleton, Colo., native totaled five goals and three assists in her rookie season. She started 17 matches in her first season, scoring her first goal in CU's 2-1 over Texas. Barton picked up the game-winning goal in CU's 2-1 win over Arizona State. She finished the year No. 38 in Top Drawer Soccer's Freshman Top 100.
