Nordic Teams Continue 2020 Season With Qualifier Races In Aspen
February 07, 2020 | Skiing
ASPEN, Colo.—The Colorado Ski Team will be joined by other Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association teams Saturday and Sunday here for a pair of Nordic qualifier races. Â
Saturday's action will be part of the Raole Willie Memorial Ski Race and feature 5K women's and 10K men's interval start freestyle races, scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and will take place at the Aspen Valley Ski Club's Nordic Ski Venue. Â
Sunday teams will compete in the Owl Creek Chase, a 21K classic race that begins in Snowmass, Colo., at the Snowmass Cross Country Ski Center and follows the Owl Creek Trail and finishes in Aspen, Colo., as the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club near Aspen High School. Â The race is considered one of Colorado's largest premier cross-country ski races and has been running since 1985. Â The college men's team will start in a mass start at 9 a.m. followed by the college women's teams at 9:05 a.m. Â
There will be no team scoring for the races, but they will count for individual NCAA Qualification and awards like All-RMISA and the MVP race. Â The Buffs will look to continue a strong season during which the Nordic teams have combined for 19 Top 10 finishes including six podium appearances and two wins. Â Â
On the men's side, Magnus Boee won both races two weeks ago at the Denver Invitational in Minturn, Colo., and has four top five finishes in four races. Â The women have been led by senior Anne Siri Lervik, who also has four top five finishes in four races this season, with three podiums and one runner-up finish. Â
