Colorado Sends Large Squad To Air Force

BOULDER — The University of Colorado track and field program will send a large squad of sprinters, jumpers and throwers to the Air Force Collegiate Open this Friday.
The men and women's sprint and hurdles squads will be in action for the first time since competing at the Razorback Invitational. The main events contested on the men's side will be the 200, 400 and 4x4, while the women's squad with compete in the same event while also putting six total Buffs in the 60 hurdles.
For the women's sprinters, Valerie Welch is joined by Elise Gillett in the 200 while Sam Crosmer, Jaida Drame and Kara Lucyk run the 400. Drame and Crosmer will be joined by Tamia Badal and Reese Renz in the women's 4x440 yard, Air Force's specialty closing event. Welch, Badal, Renz, Gillett, Lucyk and Jada Green make up the women's hurdle crew.
On the men's side of the sprints and hurdles, Ian Gilmore and Kellen Monestime are slated to run the 200 while Kendal Smith, Garrett Nelson, Nathan Hoy, Nick Bianco and Nick Nuhfer all run the open 400. Â Monestime and Bianco will also hurdle while Gilmore, Nelson, Hoy, Smith and Nuhfer are all scheduled to compete in the 4x440.
In the jumps, Ryan Charles and Allie Routledge are high jumping, while Charles also long jumps along with Cheyenne Cheshier, Sarah Aanenson, Lucyk and Gillett. Both Cheshier and Aanenson are also competing in the triple jump.
The throws squad consists of Lars Atkinson as the lone male doubling in both disciplines while both Lauren and Meghan Whyrick along with Gya'ni Sami, Elena Opp, Obi Osafo-Mensah all double up on the women's side. Henry Carlson, Green and Gillett will also toss the shot put only. Tyler Sconce, Caleb Penner, Clayton Castro, Jane Powers and Bella Braun are all scheduled in the weight throw.
