2016-17 (Senior): Averaged 6.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists, playing in all 34 games with 17 starts. Fortune ranked third on the team in assists (51) and fourth in both 3-pointers made (31) and blocked shots (10). Had a solid season from the free throw line hitting on 85.7 percent of his attempts (48 of 56). He made 19 straight free throws over a seven-game stretch from Seattle U. (11/14) through Portland (12/3). Fortune was a perfect 10 of 10 from the line against ULM (11/17), at the time the best single-game mark by a Buffalo in two seasons. His 10 free throws made and attempted were both single game career highs. Scored in double digits in nine games, including a season-high 15 points vs. Fort Hays State (12/17). Recorded a Pac-12 season-high 11 points at Oregon and in the process surpassed 1,000 points for his four-year collegiate career, including his two years at Providence (1,037 total). He matched a season high with three 3-pointers against the Ducks and tied a team season-best by going 3 of 3 from downtown. Finished off his career by scoring 12 points on a season-high five field goals, at UCF in the NIT (3/15). Completed his Colorado career averaging 8.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists while hitting 86 3-point field goals in 68 games.
2015-16 (Junior): Second on the team in assists (2.2 apg) and 3-pointers made (55) while ranking third in scoring (10.3 ppg) and 3-point percentage (.385) and fifth rebounding (4.0 rpg). His 351 points rank as the seventh best for a CU transfer in a single season. Fortune ranked 15th in the Pac-12 Conference in 3-point percentage. He was one of three Buffaloes in the top 15, joining George King and Dominique Collier, as Colorado led the league in that category as a team with a school record 38.9 percent. Fortune had an outstanding Coors Events Center debut, recording his first career double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds against Portland (11/20). His 14 rebounds were the most by a Colorado back court player and tied for the third most overall this season. Fortune also had a personal-best six assists in that game, a number he also matched in back-to-back games against Fort Lewis (12/2) and Colorado State (12/6). He earned Las Vegas Classic All-Tournament honors averaging 12.5 points and 3.3 assists while hitting 52.4 percent from 3-point range (11-of-21). Had a Colorado career-high 21 points in the home win over Stanford (1/27) while matching an overall personal best of five 3-point field goals. Fortune scored in double digits 19 times including in eight of his final 10 games and was Colorado’s second-leading scorer at the Pac-12 Tournament at 11.5 points an outing. Fortune nearly had his second double-double of the season against Arizona in the Pac-12 Tournament, with 10 points and eight rebounds along with three steals and two blocks. He played in all 34 games, starting in 17 as the Buffaloes deployed a 3-man rotation of Fortune, George King and Tre'Shaun Fletcher for the shooting guard and wing starting spots for most of the season.
2014-15 (Redshirt): Sat out the season per NCAA rules after transferring from Providence College. He selected the Buffaloes over LSU and Valparaiso.
2013-14 (Sophomore at Providence): Started all 35 games helping the Friars to a 23-12 record and an NCAA Tournament berth. One of the key players helping the Friars to the Big East Conference Tournament championship at Madison Square Garden. Providence won three games in three days, all by single digits and by an average of six points per contest (Friars second conference tournament championship and first since 1994). During the season, averaged 33 minutes per game, one of three to play that many minutes. Fifth on the team in scoring, averaging 8.4 points per game; second in assists (72, 2.1 apg.) and three-pointers made (56); fourth in steals (33, 0.9 spg.). Shot 35 percent from the three-point arc (56-of-160). Helped the Friars to a 10-8 conference record by averaging 9.1 points and 2.6 assists per game. Made 34 of his 59 field goals from three-point range (37 percent). Scored in double digits 14 times, including nine of the final 13 contests of the season where he averaged 11.9 ppg., 3.7 rpg., 2.1 apg., 1.2 spg. Career-high 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting (.615) against St. John’s (3/13) in the quarterfinal round of conference tournament. In his three Big East Tournament games, averaged 14.3 points and shot 54.5 percent from the field (12-of-22), including a team-high six treys; also was 13-of-14 at the free throw line (.929). Played 50 minutes in team’s double-overtime winner at St. Johns (1/16). Equaled a career-high in steals set in his freshman season with five in the home win over Marist (11/16). Had 12 games with at least three or more assists in a game and seven games with two or more steals in a game.
2012-13 (Freshman at Providence): Started 18 of 34 games, averaging 23.1 minutes a game. Averaged 5.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.4 assists per game. Started the first 17 games of his initial season. Scored double-digits seven times, including a season-high 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting in neutral court overtime loss to Penn State (11/16). Registered 10 points, six rebounds and four assists in home win against Fairfield (11/23). Handed-out six assists, three times, including a career-high eight dimes in home win versus Holy Cross (11/27). Scored 17 points, shot 10-of-11 from the free throw line with five steals in home win against Rhode Island (12 6). Scored another 17 points in home victory against Colgate (12/18). Played over 40 minutes five times, including 45 minutes against the Nittany Lions. Scored 15 points on 5-of-5 shooting from three-point arc in the team’s three point win at Villanova (2/3).
High School: Averaged 13.8 points and 3.5 rebounds per game as a senior at Kecoughtan High School. Team captain in 2011 and 2012. Helped the Warriors reach the state semifinals in 2012. Averaged 13.9 points per game his junior year. Helped Kecoughtan to the district title as a sophomore.
Academics: Graduated in May 2017 with his bachelor's degree in Communication.
Personal: Born Joshua D. Fortune on September 1, 1994. Son of Craig and Angela Fortune. Has an older brother, Craig. Mother, Angela is a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. Fortune’s Aunt, Naomi Churchill was the first African-American woman to be Deputy Director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Played for the Boo Williams AAU program. Says scoring 36 points on U-16 Boo Williams’ AAU team to win fifth place nationals, biggest moment of prep career.
