Career at Colorado—Ghent capped one of the best female alpine careers in CU history in 2012. In just three seasons, she competed in 40 races with 33 top 20 finishes, including 20 of 22 giant slalom races, and 28 top 10 finishes. She had seven podium appearances, five in GS with two victories. She ended her career as a five-time All-American, earning first-team mention three times, as was the Gold Medalist in overall female alpine action at the World University Games in 2011. She was ruled a senior in 2012 because she had enrolled at the University of Denver in 2009, even though she was not a member of the ski team there.
2012 (Senior)—Ghent competed in all 15 races including the NCAA Championships and finished 14. She had to hike in three others, but in the other 11 finishes, she recorded a top 10 finish in each of them and was a staple in the top 5 with 10 such finishes. She finished on the podium three times with one win, the giant slalom race at the University of Colorado Spencer Nelson Memorial Invitational. She also finished third in the first race of the season, also a giant slalom race ahead of the CU Invitational in Eldora. Upping her slalom action, she finished six of seven races and hiked once. In the other five races, she finished with a second, fourth, two fifths and a ninth place. In GS action, she hiked twice and had top five finishes in each of the other six races with one win, one third, two fourth and two fifth place finishes. She had her career best slalom finish at the Denver Invitational, a second place showing, and also brought home fourth in the giant slalom there. She finished fifth in both the slalom and giant slalom qualifier races held ahead of the RMISA Championships and then finished fifth in the slalom at the RMISA Championships, all in Montana. She then capped her career as a two-time first-team All-American, finishing fourth in both giant slalom and slalom action at Bridger Bowl. She earned second-team All-RMISA Honors, was nominated for the CUSPY for Female Athlete of the Year honors at CU and was the CU Athlete of the Week for her dual first-team All-American performance at the NCAA Championships.
2011 (Junior)—Ghent recorded nine top 10 and two podium appearances in her junior season culminating in two All-America performances helping the Buffaloes to the national championship. She ended the season on a streak of seven straight top 10 finishes sandwiched around a trip to World University Games, where she won the gold for best overall alpine performance for the United States. She had two podium appearances in the RMISA Qualifier races, both GS races, first winning the race ahead of the Montana State Invitational and then taking third at Winter Park in the Denver Invitational. She took home eighth place at the RMISA Championships in the GS race, and then helped the Buffaloes to the NCAA Championship with a fifth place finish in the GS race, earning first-team All-America honors, and she followed that up with a clutch 10th place finish in the slalom race on the final day, earning second-team All-America honors. She earned first-team All-RMISA and was the CU Athlete of the Week when she traveled to World University Games and was the RMISA Skier of the Week for the two RMISA Qualifier races. She was also named to the inaugural first-team Academic All-Big 12 At-Large team.
2010 (Sophomore)—Ghent recorded eight top 10 and six top five finishes in a fantastic first season culminating in an All-America performance with a sixth place finish in the slalom race at the NCAA Championships. She started her career by finishing in the top five in her first six races with two podium appearances in that time, the slalom race at the Utah Invitational and the giant slalom (third) qualifier race in Montana State (second), both her season best performance. Solid in both disciplines, she took home five top 10 performances in giant slalom races and three in slalom competition. She earned second-team All-RMISA honors and was a member of the Division I All-Academic team, given to those skiers who compile a 3.5 or better grade point average and compete at the RMISA Championships.
Club—Ghent skied for the Rocky/Central Regional team since 2004 and was also a member of the Colorado All-Star team in that time. She also skied for Ski Club Vail, as well. She won four races in non-collegiate competition and finished as the second overall junior at the 2008 U.S. Nationals, which helped her to achieve a world ranking of 76 in the Super G.
High School—Ghent is a 2006 graduate of Battle Mountain high school, she was a dual-sport athlete at Battle Mountain, also excelling in cross country and soccer. She led her cross country team to a 2005 State Championship and individually, she was a regional champion in 2005 and she earned a pair of top-10 finishes at the state championships in 2004 and 2006. Ghent set a school record for the 5K in 2004 and she still holds the record of 18:38.
In The Classroom—Ghent graduated in December 2012 with a degree in International Affairs, earning Division I All-Academic stature as a sophomore for maintaining above a 3.5 grade point average. She was an academic all-state selection in both soccer and cross country during high school and she is also a lifetime member of the national honors society.
Personal—Erika Ghent was born August 29, 1988 and is the daughter of Brad and Karen Ghent. She is one of three girls, as she had two younger sisters, Christa and Abby. Her father, Brad, also skied for Colorado during a time where the Buffs won four-straight national championships. Ghent is a third generation CU student and comes from a family of skilled skiers. When she's not skiing, she enjoys cooking, reading, and running and hiking with her dogs. She chose to pursue her collegiate skiing career at Colorado because she wanted to stay in-state and because of the program and its current athletes.
