2004?Colorado’s top downhill skier (men’s or women’s) in ?04, Hogan won her first run (in the only sub-45 second time of the morning) and first collegiate race, taking the giant slalom in the season opening Utah Invitational, edging Denver’s Pia  Rivelsrud.  It was the first slalom victory for a CU woman since Mia Cullman snared the win at Montana State in ?03.  The win sparked a streak of eight straight top-10 finishes, halted with an 18th place effort in the NCAA West Regional giant slalom.  She was one of two Buffs to turn in a runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships in Donner’s Summitt, Calif. (Lake Tahoe), when she finished a career best second in the GS for her first All-American title.  She was named the team’s outstanding women’s alpine skier at the end of the season and was named to the 2004 All-Rocky Mountain Ski Association Team.

2003? As a true freshman and top newcomer on the women’s side, Hogan battled teammate Mia Cullman for bragging rights as the women’s top alpine skier and in the process has emerged as one of the strongest downhill skiers in the region.  In 10 finishes, she had all but one top-15 finishes, including a season-best runner-up effort in the slalom in both the CU Invitational and NCAA West Regional.  She christened her collegiate career with a ninth-place finish in the GS at the Montana State Invitational, but was DQ’d during the first run of the slalom.  She suffered the same misfortune a week later in Park City as she finished a season-best sixth in the GS before failing to finish her second run of the slalom.  The top female American skier at the World University Games, Hogan won just the second American medal of the games and first in skiing when she claimed the bronze with a third-place finish in the slalom.  She also turned in a 12th-place finish in the GS and a 27th-place effort in the super-G.  Fresh off her success in Italy, she had back-to-back “complete” weekends at both the CU Invite and the Western State Invite.  At Eldora she finished ninth in the GS and a team-best runner-up in the slalom.  Less than a week later she turned in 11th and 10th place finishes at WSC, respectively.  Thanks to posting the fastest morning run in the slalom, she kicked off the postseason in leading the Buffs to a 2-3-4 finish in the event before finishing 14th in the GS at the West Regional.  Following a 13th place GS finish at the NCAA Championships, she suffered a fate similar to her brother’s in the slalom as she fell in the morning, costing her 10 seconds or more, and also had to hike in the afternoon, leading to an eventual 33rd place finish in the race.  She was an RMISA All Conference selection.

High School? Hogan was the class president her sophomore and junior years and the school president her senior year at Stratton. She also competed in soccer and lacrosse at Stratton.

Other? As a member of the Stratton Mountain School she spent one year ranked in the slalom, four in the giant slalom and was once the 14th ranked slalom skier in the U.S.  She also picked up several FIS wins. In 2002 she finished 22nd in the slalom at Europa Cup, in the top-10 in the slalom at U.S. Nationals and top-20 in the GS at U.S. Nationals.

Academics?A three-year honor roll student as a prep, Hogan is a sociology major at Colorado and eclipsed the 3.0 plateau during the in-season spring ’03 semester.

Personal?Erika Dana Hogan was born July 31, 1983 in Holmes, N.Y.  She is the daughter of Ken and Ellen Hogan of Holmes.  Her older brother Brad is a redshirt sophomore on the CU ski team and her older sister Randi is a senior in college.  She began skiing when she was 3-years-old.  She is one of two ski team representatives on Colorado’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
