2003? McEachren had her most complete season of her career, racing in all but the NCAA Championships and finishing all but one race when she was DQ’d on her second giant slalom run at the NCAA West Regional, her final run of the season. It was also the third straight season that she turned in all top-20 finishes. The first half of the season was clearly her strongest as she scored in four of the first five races turning in top-15 finishes in all but the season opening GS run at Montana State. Representing Canada at the World University Games in Tarvisio, Italy in January, she finished 25th in the super-G, did not finish her second gs run, but rebounded to finish 14th in the slalom, just two places behind teammate Mia Cullman.
2002? McEachren struggled at the start of the 2002 campaign, as she was disqualified in four of her first five races, the single count was an 11th place effort in the slalom at the Nevada Invitational. She was able to string together three straight races without fault including a season-best 10th place finish in the slalom at New Mexico. Her DQ woes followed her into the postseason when she was DQd in her first run the slalom before putting her sophomore season in the books with a 19th place finish in the GS. After spending some time in Canada during the summer she worked a ski camp at Mt. Hood.
2001? McEachren christened her freshman season with a top-10 finish in the GS at the Utah Invitational. Her first two slalom finishes didn’t follow suit as she finished 31st at Utah, and failed to finish at the Nevada Invitational. She improved on both marks a week later, with her second top-10 finish in the GS and an 11th-place improvement in the slalom. Her best-combined weekend of the 2001 campaign was a sixth?place finish in the giant slalom and seventh in the slalom at the New Mexico Invitational, the last meet of the regular season. At the World University Games in Zakopane, Poland in February, she finished 12th skiing for Canada. Her season ended prematurely when she failed to finish in both races at the NCAA West Regionals in Frisco, Colo.
Other? She previously skied for the Canadian Junior Team from 1998-2000. Her top finishes there included second in the giant slalom at the Nabob Cup and third in the GS at the Canadian GMC Cup. Prior to joining the junior national team, she was a member of the Alberta Ski Team for three seasons (1996-98). Her best effort with Alberta was third place at the Junior Nor Am Cup in ’98. She was also the Dual Slalom Champion at the Kahula Cup. She was a member of Banff’s 1997 Alberta championship soccer team.
Academics? She is currently a kinesiology and bio-chemistry major at CU. As a sophomore she turned in a perfect 4.00 fall semester and fell just short of that with a 3.88 spring effort and will carry a team-high 3.57 cumulative grade point average into her senior season. She was named to the 2002 and ’03 Division I National All-Academic Ski Teams.
Personal?Leslie Erin McEachren was born Feb. 18, 1980 in Edmonton, Alberta, so it’s no surprise that she’s an Edmonton Oilers fan. Her younger brother, Danny, was a member of the 2000 Canadian National Junior Team. Her nickname is “Peaches.”
