2006 First Team All-American (Freestyle)

Top Career Classical Finish: 1st (2006 Montana State Invitational)

Top Career Freestyle Finish: 1st (twice, last 2007 Montana State Invitational)

This Season ? “In his last year of competition, Kit is the team captain, and a leader in dedication and hard work.  Kit really wants to finish with a win and if hard work counts, he may get what he wants.  After winning the NCAA Championships as a team and as an individual he is looking to do it again this year.”

2007 ? The defending 2006 freestyle national champion, Richmond claimed his third career victory at Montana State in the 10K freestyle and placed in the top-10 in eight of the 10 races he participated in.  He posted four top-5 finishes, only one of which came in the classical discipline when he took fifth at Utah.  He missed out on two races as he was unable to compete at New Mexico due to an illness, but he still qualified for the NCAA Championships where he took 16th in the 20K classical race and 14th in the 10K freestyle.  Richmond earned 2007 first-team All-RMISA honors.

2006 ? Richmond was the sole member of the men’s Nordic team without NCAA Championship experience, but that did not stop him from claiming the NCAA title in the men’s freestyle race.  It was a fantastic win for Richmond, particularly considering the bout he had with the flu that hampered him to a 19th place finish in the classical race two days prior. Entering the NCAA Championships, Richmond had finished in the top 10 in all 10 of his races, with his top finish coming in the classical race at Western State, which he won for his first collegiate victory.  In total, Richmond visited the podium five times, including a third place finish in the classical race at the RMISA Championships  He paired that with a fourth place showing in the freestyle race, missing the podium in a photo finish by less than a tenth of a second.

Club ? Richmond competed for three years for the Rocky Mountain Racers team, and in that span was a top three junior racer as well as a two-time silver medalist in the Canada Winter Games as a member of Team Alberta.  He spent a year with the national senior development team and a year with the x-c.com club, earning first in the Senior Medals, third in the NorAm 15k and the NorAm Skiathlon.

In the Classroom ? Richmond is majoring in finance at Colorado, and has an interest in pursuing sports marketing or business after college in addition to skiing.

Personal ? Born June 6, 1983 in Waterloo, Ontario, Christopher Richmond is the son of David and Lianna Richmond.  He volunteers at winter ski camps teaching children to ski, and chose Colorado because of its tradition of excellence in skiing and in academics.
