Cranmer on Grevsgaard ? “Maria Grevsgard is back for her final year strong as ever, which says a lot coming from an almost perfect season last year. She is team captain again. She seems to be in great shape and should be back as one of the women to beat. She has already started the season with some strong performances. Maria has such a great attitude and it is a dream to have her on the team.”
2008 ? Grevsgaard proved to be the most dominant skier on the collegiate circuit, winning 11 of 12 races, including the coveted NCAA sweep. She earned All-American honors in both the freestyle and classical disciplines at the NCAA Championships, and her 19 career wins make her CU’s all-time winningest skier. With the sweep, she became the fourth Buff to claim both NCAA individual titles since the sport went coed in 1983, the third Nordic woman to do so. At the conclusion of the RMISA season, Grevsgaard, crowned MVP RMISA Women’s Nordic Skier, was presented the 2008 Final Yellow Bib for skate and classic, awarded to the top qualifiers in each discipline for the NCAA Championships, and was named First Team All-RMISA at the regional banquet. After arguably one of the most successful individual seasons in program history, Grevsgaard added to her honors as she was named the 2007-08 female Collegiate Skier of the Year by FasterSkier.com.
2007 ? Grevsg?rd, coming off a strong first season, proved to be the most dominant female Nordic skier in the west. She kicked off her season on the right foot, winning her first Nordic race of the year in the 5K classical event at Utah. After falling to sixth in the freestyle event at Utah, she rallied back to nab three-straight victories, the most impressive being the 10K classical at MSU where she claimed the title 54 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Grevsg?rd won her seventh race at the RMISA Championships, sweeping five classical races on the season, for nine first or second place finishes in 10 races. Her fourth place finish in the 15K classical at the NCAA Championships landed her first-team All-America honors and she received the second-team All-America nod when she finished sixth in the freestyle event. Grevsg?rd completed a fantastic season with 10 top-five finishes, as she led the west with seven victories. She earned first-team All-RMISA honors and was named RMISA Skier of the Week after her performance in Utah. Grevsg?rd topped off the accolades at the end of the season when she was crowned MVP RMISA Women’s Nordic Skier.
2006 ? Grevsg?rd earned her first collegiate win in the 5k Classical race at Howelsen Hill at the CU Invite, and followed that up a day later with a sixth place showing in the freestyle race. She was a top 10 finisher in 11 of her 12 starts on the season, with a pair of runner up spots in the first two classical races of the season and four overall following her second place showing behind teammate Jana Rehemaa in the RMISA Championships and at the NCAA’s. Grevsg?rd was the RMISA most valuable performer for the season, and did not disappoint at the NCAA Championships, earning first team All-American honors in the classical race and second team honors for the freestyle race. She was second behind Rehemaa in the 15k classical race and took ninth in the 10k freestyle event.
Club ? Grevsg?rd joined Colorado from the Geilo IL team, where she spent 10 seasons, as well as the Norwegian junior national team where she skied for two years. She won the 2004 Norwegian Junior National Championship in the 5K Classical race for her club team.
In the Classroom ? A 2008 NCAA All-Academic Team member, Grevsg?rd is an international affairs major at Colorado.
Personal ? Born June 18, 1985 in Kongsberg, Norway, Maria Moe Grevsg?rd is the daughter of Alvin Grevsg?rd and Marianne Moe of Geilo. She has two younger siblings, Eva (21) and Sjur (18).
