This Season ? “Lucie is in her last year of eligibility.  It is hard to imagine that there is still more that she can do after becoming the NCAA Slalom Champion in her freshman year.  Lucie has proved that excellent collegiate student-athletes can match some of the best skiers in world.  After an outstanding season she was named to the Czech National Team last spring and earned a World Cup spot in the 07/08 circuit.   Even with all of her commitments and international experience, she is fully committed to academics and collegiate skiing.”

2007 ? After a stellar sophomore campaign, Zikova started the season off right where she left off, taking first in the women’s slalom at the Montana State Invitational with a women’s best time of 44.28 on her first run.  She secured her second and third win of the year at Denver when she claimed the slalom and giant slalom titles, becoming just the sixth CU skier since the sport went coed in 1983 to reach at least 10 wins.  This marked the third time that she has won both the GS and slalom at the same meet.  After a surprisingly low finish at the RMISA Championships, Zikova rebounded in the NCAA’s, taking second in the slalom and fourth in the GS, earning first-team All-America honors in both disciplines.  She was named first-team All-RMISA and was the RMISA Skier of the Week after her performance at the Denver Invitational.  Zikova concluded the 2007 season ranked 54th and 123rd in the world in the slalom and GS, respectively, which is the top ranking by a CU skier, male or female, since the FIS point system began.

2006 ? Zikova won a school record six races in the regular season, including CU’s first individual alpine title since 1999.  She took a grand total of seven races on the year, tying the record set by Toni Standteiner in 1991. Zikova finished out of the top two only two times, both in the GS. She was named the RMISA MVP, and won the Skier of the Week honors after the Alaska meet.  She was the top seed in both the GS and the slalom at the NCAA meet, and took home the CU Female Athlete of the Year honors at the CUSPY’s.

2005 ? In nine finishes Zikova skied out of the top five just once, finishing sixth in GS in the season opener at Utah.  She had three runner-up finishes and a pair of third-place efforts for the region’s fifth seed.  She took a break after the Alaska Invitational in Jackson Hole to travel to Innsbruck, Austria for the World University Games where she finished 23rd in the GS and did not race slalom due to some respiratory illness. In the first day of the NCAA Championships, and skiing as a second seed in the GS, disaster struck when Zikova lost a ski on her first run and was unable to finish.  She made up for it two days later when her two-run time of 1:26.94 earned her first Team All-America honors, missing a medal by less than half a second.

Club ? From 1992-02 Zikova skied for Ski Club Spindle where her top finishes included a third place giant slalom finish at Trofeo Topolino and a third place effort in the GS in the Air Canada Whistler Cup, both in 1998.  From 1999-03 she skied for the Czech Republic Junior National Team where she won the slalom, GS and Super-G in the Czech Republic Junior National Championships in 2003.

In the Classroom ? Zikova is a finance major at Colorado and was named to the 2007 NCAA Skiing All-Academic Team.

Personal ? Lucie “Ziki” Zikova was born June 11, 1984 in Trnava, Slovakia.  She is the daughter of Pavel and Milka (a ski instructor) Zikova of the Czech Republic.  She has a younger brother, 17-year-old Adam.  Her hobbies include mountain biking, climbing and reading.
