2010 (I) 5,000-Meter Run, 8th (14:18.05)

2010: Indoor: Vega had an outstanding indoor season for the Buffs. He debuted at the UW Invite (1/30), running the 3,000-meter run in 8:12.89. It was the third best time for CU in 2010. Vega ran the 5k two weeks later at the Husky Classic (2/13). There he finished in 14:04.36, just .12 seconds behind teammate Richard Medina. The time made his the 13^th fastest performer in CU history and was the second fastest time of the year for the Buffs. Vega had a breakout Big 12 Championship. He was the only Buff to score in the meet. Vega placed eighth in the 5k (14:18.05) and just missed scoring in the 3k with a ninth-place finish (8:15.35).

Outdoor: Vega continued to excel for the Buffs during the outdoor season. He started off by running the then-fastest 10k in the Big 12 at the Stanford Invite (3/26). His time of 29:15.57 was the second fastest of the 2010 season for CU and put him 12^th on the CU all-time performers list. Vega ran one 1,500, doing so at the CU Invite (4/10). He placed third with a time of 3:55.02 and the Buffs took the top five positions. Vega’s next race was the 5k at the Mt. SAC Relays (4/16). He clocked a time of 13:49.56 to place fifth in the Olympic Development section. The time was the second best for CU on the season. Next up was the Big 12 meet. He ran in both the 5k and 10k. Vega was just out of scoring when he took ninth in the 10k to start the meet (29:41.19). He was 12^th in the 5k (14:18.97) just two days later. Vega qualified for the NCAA West Preliminaries in both races as well. He missed advancing to nationals after taking 20^th in the 10k (30:19.73) and 15^th in the 5k (14:14.87).

PRE-COLORADO: Vega ran his personal records in the 1,500 and 5,000-meter runs at Mexico’s National Championship in 2007. He recorded a runner-up finish in the 5k with a time of 14:07 and was seventh in the 1,500 (3:50).

ACADEMICS: Vega is an exchange student from Mexico and is majoring in management.

PERSONAL: Aldo Saul Vega Escobedo was born on November 26, 1987 in Queretaro, Mexico. He is the son of Gilberto Vega Benavidez and Petra Escobedo Espindola. Vega has two brothers, Gilberto and Edwin. He chose to come to CU for one semester as part of an exchange program because of the altitude, geography and track & field program.
