2006 Outlook: A true team leader, Newlands will finish her collegiate career this outdoor season. Carly has had some outstanding workouts this year and is very close to having a major breakthrough season.  

2005: The 2005 season was year of personal best for Newlands. During the indoor season, she set personal records in the shot put (47-5.75) and weight throw (49-7); both at the Don Barrett Air Force Open. She took the top-spot in the shot put at the same event for her only first-place finish of the season. Newlands was equally as impressive in the outdoor season as she set personal bests in the shot put (47-10) and discus (146-10). She earned three first-place finishes in the shot put, which included two regional qualifying marks of 47-1.5 and 47-10.  Newlands placed seventh at the prestigious Mt. Sac Relays when she threw her pr. 

2004: During the indoor season, Newlands had the best performance on the team in the shot put, placing 12th at the Big 12 Championships with a throw of 44-09. She placed the same in the weight throw with a throw of 47-11.25. In the outdoor season, she competed in the discus throw, and finished eighth at the ASU Invitational and won the Potts Invitational. 

2003: Newlands competed in the shot put and discus, weight and hammer throws. Indoors, she recorded the squad’s top two distances in the shot put and the top three in the weight throw. Her best mark in the shot was a 40-7.75 for a 12th place finish at the Air Force Invite and her top weight throw was a seventh place finish at the Air Force Classic (44-09.75). Outdoors, Newlands secured the top three spots on the team, including a season-best 139-10 at the Pepsi Team Invite and a 13th place finish at the Big 12 Championships (133-01).

2002: Newlands’ outdoor shot put high of the season came at the ASU Invitational (39-10.75) for a seventh place finish. Her throw of 38-7 at the Colorado Invitational netted her a first place finish. In the discus throw, Newlands finished second at the Colorado Invite (128-2), and finished 13th at the Big 12 Championships with a personal record throw of 141-1. She had her shot put high of the indoor season at the Husker Invitational (40-3.5), finishing ninth. She was 17th at the Big 12 Championships with a throw of 38-6.75. Newlands placed 11th at the Husker Invitational in the weight throw (40-6.75) and 14th at the Air Force Invitational (41-8).

High School: Newlands took first in the state in discus her senior year at Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins, Colo. She lettered all four years and was named all-conference her senior year. Her team also finished second in state that year.

Academics: Newlands is an economics major that was named to the Commissioner’s Honor roll following the fall ’02 semester.

Personal: Carly Marie Newlands was born on May 9, 1983 to Brian and Donna Newlands in Fort Collins, Colo. In high school, she was a senior class officer, head of the student council and speaker for the D.A.R.E. program. Her father played professional football for the Baltimore Colts and Houston Oilers. Newlands aspires to be an athletic director or strength coach someday. She is the President of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee at CU and the Vice Chair of the Big 12 SAAC. She was also a member of the Athletic Director Search Committee.
