Buffs to Compete in California This Weekend

April 17, 2018 | Track and Field

The track and field team is sending athletes to Azusa and Stanford

BOULDER – The Colorado track and field team will be sending athletes to compete in Azusa, California at the Bryan Clay Invitational and to Stanford to compete in the Cardinal Classic. The Bryan Clay Invitational will kick off with the multi events on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by the running and field events on Thursday and Friday. The Cardinal Classic will be held on Friday and Saturday.

The Colorado women's track and field team is ranked No. 16 in the nation for the second week in a row. These NCAA rankings came out on Monday, April 16. This is following the women's weekend at the Colorado School of Mines Kit Mayer Invitational and the NoCo Challenge.

Head Coach Wetmore on the Bryan Clay Multi Meet:
"Annually Azusa Pacific co-hosts a decathlon/heptathlon in conjunction with Mt. San Antonio College and that is Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Our decathletes and heptathletes are there with Coach (Lindsey) Malone. Historically it's a place where we get some of our best marks of the year and it is their first multi-event of the outdoor season so it's their chance to demonstrate that they belong at the Pac-12 in three weeks. It's an event that Coach Malone and the multi athletes look forward to all year long."

On the Bryan Clay Invitational:
"There is also a meet at Azusa Pacific that is all the other events. We'll have a handful of people there. Some of the people who are trying to earn their way to the Pac-12 as well."

On the Cardinal Classic:
"The bulk of the team though will be at Palo Alto at a meet called the Cardinal Classic that is more of a team meet. That is the established varsity going up against more full teams from around the country. Traditionally it is a place where good marks are achieved and we have qualified many NCAA preliminary round athletes from Palo Alto throughout the years".
Overall, Coach Wetmore said, "What we are looking for, is to be competitive, to be visible in lots of events, and have personal bests and qualifying marks by Saturday night."
