A three-time all-Big Seven Conference team member in the late 1950s, Dale Douglass excelled in the days when college golf featured dual matches rather than tournament play ... He led Colorado to a 30-9 record in dual meets during his career (he owned a personal record of 33-6) ... He owned a career stroke average of 74.11 and posted three top 10 finishes in the Big 7 Championships (tying for eighth as a freshman in 1956, taking seventh as a junior in '58 and fifth as a senior in '59)... He was just the second Buff (and one of only five to date) to post three top 10 efforts in a conference meet ... The first Buffalo alum to play on the Ryder Cup team (1969 at Royal Birkdale; the competition ended in a tie) ... A member of both the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame (inducted in 1989) and the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame, as well as an inaugural member CU's Golf Hall of Fame. He went on to win three PGA Tour events and 11 PGA Champions (formerly Senior) Tour competitions, as he was CU's first established star on the professional circuit ... His best finish in one of the four majors was a tie for 13th place in the 1969 U.S. Open (and was 19th in the Masters that same year); he won one "senior" major when he captured the 1986 U.S. Senior Open in Columbus, Ohio ... He has played 1,043 professional tour events, 444 on the PGA Tour and 599 on the Champions Tour (the latter are the second most in Senior/Champions Tour history, as he trails only Miller Barber) ... The Wewoka, Okla., native was born March 5, 1936 and he is still playing, though sporadically, on the Champions Tour.
