Dean Lahr was a two-time NCAA individual champion in the 177-pound class, winning both the 1963 and 1964 titles. In the same weight class, he was the Big Eight champion the same years and the runner-up in 1962 (and was also the national runner-up). He was selected as the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the 1964 NCAA meet. He was the recipient of the Alumni C Club Senior Awrd for his achievement in both athletics and academics, and is generally considered the greatest wrestler in CU history. Between the years of 1963 and 1965, he competed in 84 meets nationally and internationally, posting an incredible 73-7-4 record. He was a three-time Rocky Mountain AAU Champion (1961, 1962 & 1964) and a two-time AAU national champion in 1963 and 1966. He was a member of the U.S. World Wrestling Team in 1963 and 1966. He also played two years as a reserve guard on the football team.
