BOULDER- David Harrison had 16 points and nine rebounds and Blair Wilson added 15 as Colorado beat Rice 108-80 on Thursday.
Jason Carter had 14 points in the second half. Nick Mohr had 13 points and Stephane Pelle had 10 points and 12 rebounds as seven Colorado players reached double-figure scoring. Pelle's double-double was his 13th in three seasons, placing him tied for 11th place on the CU all-time list.
Michael Harris led Rice (2-1) with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Rice shot 36 percent from the field after shooting 60 percent in it first two games.
Mohr heated up from long range, hitting two 3-pointers as Colorado (3-0) went on a 28-11 run to take a 40-19 lead. Rice trailed 54-36 at halftime.
"I think this was a good win for us and a good step in the right direction," said CU head coach Ricardo Patton. "Defensively, we did a solid job and I was pleased with our hustle and effort. Our guys were really playing unselfishly and always looking for each other."
Omar-Seli Mance scored five points midway through the second half to keep Rice within 18 points. His jumper made it 81-63 with 9:05 left in the game.
But Chris Brimmer's layup off a steal and a dunk by Pelle began a 20-13 run culminated by a conventional three-point play by James Wright (11 assists) that put Colorado ahead 101-74.
Colorado substituted freely over the final 3:37.
