Spikers fall to Huskers in Three

The University of Colorado Buffaloes (8-7, 2-3 Big 12) fell to the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers (12-1, 4-0 Big 12) 23-30, 24-30, 16-30 Wednesday night here to drop their third straight Big 12 match of the season.
"We did the same thing tonight that we've been doing all season," Colorado head coach Pi'i Aiu said. "It doesn't matter who's on the other side of the court, if we make mistakes, it's going to cost us matches. We're not a very good team right now. We play well in stretches, but we can't put enough consistency together to win a match. We're going to have to get things done in the practice gym, and we're going to have to get our players to believe in that. We just have to work hard and start getting things done."
Colorado hit a meager .092 in the match to Nebraska's .394 team hitting percentage. Junior middle blocker Monique Gerlach hit in double-figures for the Buffs for the fifth consecutive match and led the Buffs in kills with 12 for the ninth time this season. Gerlach hit a team-high.308 on the night while senior setter Elizabeth Gower came up on top with nine kills on defense.
Laura Pilakowski and Anna Schrad powered the Huskers with 11 kills apiece. Nebraska tallied 15 blocks in the match while Colorado stuffed only four.
The Buffs now return back to Boulder to host Oklahoma on Oct. 7 at the Coors Events/Conference Center, before traveling to Manhattan to face Kansas State on Oct. 12.
