  • Colorado clinched the Big 12 North title tonight with the 41-27 win over Iowa State, as the Buffs own the tiebreaker over Kansas State, the only team that can tie CU in the standings. The Buffs join Nebraska (1996-97) as the only team to repeat in North; Texas A&M (1997-98) is the only team to do it in the South.
  • Senior WR Jason Burianek made his first career start, coming in the last of his 28 homes games as a Buffalo (including his redshirt year in 1998).
  • TB Chris Brown. A roll call of what his 25-for-127 (1 TD) evening accomplished, before leaving the game with a bruised sternum:
    • He reeled off his eighth consecutive 100-yard game, the most in a row at CU since 1994, when Rashaan Salaam closed out the regular season with nine straight. This was his ninth 100-plus game of 2002, giving him 14 in his career; that ties him with Rashaan Salaam for the second most in CU history; Eric Bieniemy leads with 22.
    • He now has 1,742 yards on the year, or 158.4 per game.
    • The 1,745 total ties him for the 40th most for a single-season in NCAA history.
    • He passed Eric Bieniemy for the second most rushing yards in a single season at CU (Bieniemy had 1,628 in 1990;
Salaam has the top number, 2,055 in 1994).
    • He now has 204 career points, only the fourth player to eclipse the 200-point mark at CU; he is No. 4 on the list.
  • TB Bobby Purify. Purify had his second straight 100-plus yard game (20-174), the fifth of his career (the first time he's done it back-to-back). It's the second most yards in his career (191 vs. CSU in 2001), and he now has 677 for the year, vaulting him into 20th on CU's all-time rushing list.
  • Purify also had 51 yards receiving to give him 225 all-purpose tonight, a career-high. He also earned a career-high 11 first downs (7 rush, 4 receiving).
  • With both Purify and Brown going over 100 tonight as well as last week at Missouri, it marked the first time since 1989 that Colorado has had back-to-back games with two 100-yard rushers. It last happened on Oct. 21-28, 1989, when J.J. Flannigan and Darian Hagan did it against Kansas and at Oklahoma; Flannigan had 10-178 followed by 25-103; Hagan had 17-118 followed by 21-107. Brown had 25-211 and Purify 19-119 last week.
  • TB Marcus Houston. Houston played for the first time since the CSU game, when he suffered a partial ligament tear in a knee. He rushed for 14 yards on the very first play he was back in the lineup.
  • Colorado has scored in 10 straight quarters/periods, dating back to the fourth quarter at Oklahoma. CU scored in all four plus the overtime last week at Missouri, and in all four quarters tonight.
  • Today marked the 21st time that Colorado donned all black uniforms, the first time ever for four straight home games. CU won all four, and is now 13-7-1 when wearing all black.
  • ILB Aaron Killion has been a "monster" on special teams. Last week at Missouri, he had two tackles inside-the-20 on kickoff coverage; tonight, he had another tackle inside-the-20 on kickoff duty and also blocked an extra point.
  • Colorado had a string of 29 consecutive third down tries of 10 yards or less come to an end in the third quarter; and of the 29 tries, only one was even 10 yards. CU was 10-of-17 on third down tonight (59%), and is now 21-of-36 in the last two games (58.3%).
  • The CU defense, with four tackles for loss tonight, has 87 on the season, tying the fifth most for a season in school history, and the most since the 1995 team registered 88.
  • WR D.J. Hackett had CU career highs of four catches for 69 yards, with a touchdown.
  • Bread-N-Butter. CU rushed 14 times for 104 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter (7.4 per), and now has an amazing 708 fourth quarter rushing yards in 2002 (CU had 742 in 12 games a year ago).
  • Colorado topped the 500-yard mark for the second straight game and third time this season (546 at Kansas, 575 at Missouri, 518 vs. Iowa State tonight).
  • Medford Moorer's 71-yard fumble return was the third fumble returned for a TD by Colorado this year, and the sixth return for a touchdown (three fumble, two interception, one punt). Moorer returned an interception 51 yards for a score against Texas Tech. The school record is one year is seven, set just last year.
  • DT Tyler Brayton was presented with the Buffalo Heart Award by the fans behind the bench following the game. Prior to being introduced, he threw a football 30 rows up into the stands, emulating what he did when he returned a fumble recovery for a touchdown against Texas Tech.
