Georgia 71, Colorado 70 Quotes
December 02, 2002 | Men's Basketball
CU HEAD COACH RICARDO PATTON
GENERAL-"It was a heckuva ball game. I thought the kids showed a lot of resolve by coming back and having the chance to win. Those are tough losses. You have got to be able to hit your free-throws and this game came down to hitting free-throws and that is what we didn't do. Our guys played hard and came out in the second half and gave themselves a chance to win. I don't think (the loss) is a step back, it is just a missed opportunity. We have too many steps ahead of us."
ON THE FUTURE-"This team has shown the ability to bounce back. What we need to work on are the little things. We have to be more consistent with the little things. We have to get better with free-throws and moving the ball. We have to get better blocking out, which we did in the second half. But we have to start games like that. It's a long season and we will have more opportunities. We have just got to put it together for 40 minutes."
ON GEORGIA-"Georgia has some great athletes. They are all interchangeable. That's the great thing about having guys all the same size."
ON BLAIR WILSON AND MICHEL MORANDAIS-"They did a much better job at taking the ball to the basket in the second half, especially Michel. Anytime you are targeted as a shooter, guys put their best defenders on you. But you have to make the shot."
COLORADO PLAYERS
G MICHEL MORANDAIS GENERAL-"We played a good game, but this hurts even more because it is two in a row...two games we could have won. A loss is a loss and we are 2-2 right now. It hurts."
ON GEORGIA'S WINNING SHOT-"(Jarvis Hayes) caught the ball and threw it like nobody was there. His twin brother (Jonas Hayes) caught the ball and just shot it. Then I just saw it go through the rim."
F BLAIR WILSON
ON THE PAIN OF THE LOSS-"We need to let the pain drive us. It is a tough loss and we will let it drive us for the rest of the season."
ON THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE HALVES-"The first half I was feeling things out. The second half we had 20 minutes and it was over. We had to bare down and make the shots. We gave ourselves the opportunity to win."
C DAVID HARRISON
ON MOOKIE WRIGHT-"There was a big difference in the game. He gave me room to move, but I couldn't make the free-throws."
ON GEORGIA'S WINNING SHOT-"They had to hit a fade-away, turnaround jumper against the back board to win. We played as hard as we could and they just got lucky and won the game."
GEORGIA COACH JIM HARRICK
GENERAL-"We have been on the road for three straight games, down the stretch we struggled and had some bounces that didn't go our way and today the bounce went our way. You hope and pray in this business what goes around comes around and you get a break every once and a while. We were very, very lucky."
"They out-rebounded us in the second half, but we hung right there and we had a lot of chances. Sometimes the bounce of the ball is just the way the game goes and that is what happened."
ON GEORGIA EXECUTING IN THE SECOND HALF-"We have been working on that. That's the way we played last year. I got a guy out of my lineup and a new guy in the lineup and I thought the last six or seven minutes we really executed our offense really well and got every shot we wanted to get."
ON PHYSICALITY OF COLORADO-"We played them last year and I knew (David) Harrison and (Stephane) Pelle were that way. I was really surprised with Lamar Harris. I was very impressed with him. I think he was the real difference for them. I haden't seen (Michel) Morandais play, but he is a monster kind of player."
ON DAVID HARRISON-"He's a load on anybody and I have been all over the country and I have not seen a post guy as difficult to guard as he is. He really surprised me. He played 34 minutes, and I am not sure he if he came out in the second half. He is a load, he really is a load."
