Postgame Quotes

December 20, 2002 | Women's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Ceal Barry
GENERAL-
"In the second half I didn't feel like we played well at all. I think we just got enough from Amber (Metoyer) there at the end."

ON THE PLAY OF F AMBER METOYER-"I thought that Amber came in and in the last two minutes she was the difference for us. She didn't play like a freshman. She got to the free throw line and that was the difference. I felt good (having Metoyer at the line) because she's a competitor and she likes to win. When the game is on the line, she wants the ball, she wants to be the one shooting the free throws. She's been in situations like that before at Fairview."

ON THE LONG LAYOFF FROM COMPETITION-"It was a little bit (sloppy). I think when we had three games in one week with the Cal tournament you get into more of a flow."

ON BLOWING THEIR 12-POINT LEAD-"I was disappointed with how we handled it. I think we got lackadaisical on defense. I didn't feel like it was on offense, it was the defense. We did not get out there and take advantage or make turnovers."

ON FIRST HALF PLAY-"I felt like we were a little tight. I think that's because we emphasized their defense and how they have forced on average 28 turnovers per game so I think we came out tight. I think that the guard play can improve and must improve id we're going to do anything in the Big 12."

Colorado Players
G Amber Metoyer
ON HER LAST SECOND FREE THROWS
-"If coach had enough confidence to put me in in the last couple of minutes then I knew that I had to step up and make a difference in the game. I was definitely shaking though."

C Tera Bjorklund
ON FOULING OUT
-"It was hard (watching from the bench), but I had confidence in all of our players out there. We started playing defense better and playing a lot better, so I was not worried."

ON THE EARLY SLOW PLAY-"I think the time off probably affected us. Games are different than practices so I think that added to our sluggishness in the beginning."

G Kate Fagan
ON HER THREE-POINTERS
-"I was just wide open. They (USC) went into the game and just forgot about the corner guard. I just took the shot. In the beginning I was trying to be aggressive, but then as things went on, I got in a rhythm and decided to step it up."

ON BJORKLUND'S FOUL OUT-"If Tera is not in there, then we have confidence in Randie (Wirt). The same goes with (Linda) Lappe and Sabrina (Scott). We don't care. It doesn't matter who's in there, we just know we have to get it done.'

ON USC-"They are a big, athletic, strong team."

ON USC'S COMEBACK-"I think it is good experience for our younger kids and it's good for our team. At the 1:30-mark we realized that we had to make things happen."

Southern California Head Coach Chris Gobrecht
ON THE OFFICIATING
-"Sometimes when the officials see us for the first time, they don't know what we do. I think they adjusted in the second half when they got used to play. I can live with everything except for the five-second call. That was very critical. I don't know what the rule is, but she wasn't counting with her hand. She gave her the ball, then two seconds later she blew her whistle. It was very critical."

ON COLORADO'S PLAY-"Colorado was extra-poised. They did a good job with our pressure. We've played four top-10 teams and they did the best with our pressure. These were two good teams. At the end of the season, both will be in the tournament."

ON COLORADO C TERA BJORKLUND'S PLAY-"I think her team does a great job of getting her the ball. We have played a lot of quality, big players, but her team just did a good job of finding her."

Southern California Players
C Ebony Hoffman
GENERAL
-"We just took the message she (coach Gobrecht) gave us at halftime and we came back. That's the type of lifestyle (officiating) you lead on the road. It's eight on five." "It was tough to see how aggressive we could be in the first half, but we still played our game. If we would have known, the game could have been over, but they played well."

ON HER DRAMATIC COLLAPSE-"I collapsed because I couldn't believe the call. I wasn't tired. I've been in this altitude before."

ON COLORADO'S TERA BJORKLUND-"She's big and we're not as big so she got 28 points and that's the way the story goes. She's good. Most post players can't finish with three or four players in her face and she capitalized on a lot of things."
