AUSTIN, Texas - Fueled by six players in double figures, the Texas Longhorns prevented the Colorado Buffaloes from picking up their first conference road victory defeating Colorado, 104-95, in their first morning game of the season in front of a nationally televised audience on ABC.
Despite Michel Morandais coming off the bench for a career high 22 points, and having five players of their own in double figure scoring digits, Texas converted 17 Colorado turnovers into 20 points to move them into third place in the Big 12.
Texas' (16-7, 7-3 Big 12) T.J. Ford, the nation's leader in assists, dished out nine of them in the first half to guide his team to a 53-36 halftime lead. And though Colorado (13-8, 4-6 Big 12) shot 52 percent in the first half, Texas shot 56 percent.
The Buffaloes did manage to make a comeback late in the second half as they cut Texas' lead to 97-86 with just under three minutes remaining in the game.
D.J. Harrison had his second straight 20-plus scoring game pouring in 22 after going off for 25 points against Nebraska on Wednesday. David Harrison shot 6-7 from the field to finish with 18 points. Mookie Wright and Blair Wilson scored 16 and 13, respectively.
Ford, who averaged 8.4 assists per game, finished with 12 dimes to go along with his team high 22 points. James Thomas also collected a double-double after scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Both teams shot better than 50 percent from the field for the game and Colorado went 13-15 from the free throw line.
The Buffaloes will go on the road for the second straight time when they travel to Ames, Iowa to take on Iowa State. Colorado defeated the Cyclones on Jan. 16, 63-61, on a turn around jumper by Stephane Pelle with two seconds left in the game.
