Buffs Place 118 Athletes On Honor Roll

Boulder - More than a third of the University of Colorado's student-athletes have been named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll following the fall semester the Big 12 Conference announced this week.
Leading the list of 118 athletes that turned in 3.0 grade point averages or better for the fall 2002 semester were President's List performers with unblemished 4.0 gpas: Maria Persson Gulda (golf), Meghan Swanzy (soccer), Lauren Smith (track and field), Elizabeth Gower (volleyball), Billy Boidock (basketball), Ben Carpenter (football) and Travis Macy (track and field).
The women's cross country/track and field team paced the Buffs' list with 21 members on the list, followed by football (20), men's cross country/track and field (16), soccer (13), men's skiing (9), volleyball (8), women's basketball (7), women's tennis (6), women's golf (5), women's skiing (4), men's basketball (4), men's golf (3) and men's tennis (2).
In the team standings, the men's ski team claimed the department's highest fall cumulative gpa at 3.31. They were followed closely by their counterparts on the women's team which came in a close second with a 3.27. Volleyball, women's cross country and women's tennis all claimed bragging rights to a 3.18 gpa and tie for third while women's basketball (3.02), women's golf (2.97), women's track and field (2.92), men's cross country (2.91) and men's golf (2.90) round out the top-10 teams on campus.
The overall department gpa came in at 2.81, the third straight semester that the Buffs have posted a 2.8 or better. Fifty student-athletes had a 3.50 or better fall semester, 118 eclipsed the 3.00 threshold while over 200 had a 2.50 or better while 212 are carrying cumulative gpa's of 2.5 or higher.
